Description
Ooi is a ship girl representing the fourth vessel of the Kuma class of light cruisers, the real Japanese warship Ooi, which was named after the Oi River in Shizuoka Prefecture and built in Kobe. In her appearance she has long brown hair and brown eyes, and she is almost always seen in the company of her sister ship Kitakami.
Her background is closely tied to the history of the actual ship. The real Ooi entered service in the early 1920s and suffered from persistent engine trouble, since her turbines were unusually prone to breakdowns. Because of this unreliability she spent much of her early career as a training ship attached to the naval academy, where senior cadets carried out boarding exercises aboard her and she sometimes served as a ceremonial vessel during graduation ceremonies. Later in her service life she was converted into a torpedo cruiser, and this rebuild became the core of her identity as a character.
