Description
Kaga is a shipgirl who serves as a powerful aircraft carrier in the naval base. Her origins are unique, as she was originally designed to be a Tosa-class battleship before being converted into a large aircraft carrier under the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty. This history of transformation and her role as a main force of the prestigious First Carrier Division, alongside Akagi, are central to her identity. Her name is derived from the historical Kaga Province, which is part of modern-day Ishikawa Prefecture.

In terms of personality, Kaga is best known for her stoic, serious, and reserved demeanor. She rarely displays overt emotion, presenting a calm and professional front in most situations. This lack of expressiveness contrasts sharply with the more playful personality often associated with her partner, Akagi. Kaga is deeply dedicated to her duties and holds high expectations for both herself and her admiral, as evidenced by her formal introduction where she states she has fairly high expectations of the fleet's commander. Her speech is direct and to the point, and she is sensitive about her flight deck, asking others not to touch it.

Kaga's primary motivation is to fulfill her role as a premier carrier of the First Carrier Division with excellence. She feels a strong sense of pride in her position and is determined to not let her partner, Akagi, down. This sense of duty sometimes manifests as a dismissive or disapproving attitude toward the Fifth Carrier Division, which consists of the carriers Shoukaku and Zuikaku. Kaga is known to make remarks about not wanting to be grouped with them, viewing them as less skilled. However, beneath this rivalry lies a pragmatic recognition of their abilities. She acknowledges their improvements and demands they prove their skills in combat, indicating a complex relationship where she acts as a stern, experienced senpai to the newer carriers.

Within the story, Kaga serves as a formidable and respected ace of the fleet. Her role often involves engaging in major operations and air battles, where her power is a critical asset. Her most significant relationship is with Akagi, her partner in the First Carrier Division. While the two are not overly affectionate in public, a deep bond of trust and mutual reliance exists between them, to the point where Kaga's sinking quote expresses relief if Akagi is safe. Her other key relationship is her rivalry with Zuikaku. This feud is historically rooted, but in the narrative, it puts the younger carrier at risk. Kaga's pragmatic and serious nature leads her to prioritize the mission's success and the safety of her allies, even if it means putting herself in harm's way to protect a rival from a torpedo.

Kaga undergoes subtle but meaningful development. While she remains largely stoic, her interactions reveal layers of depth. Her relationship with Zuikaku, in particular, matures from simple antagonism to a grudging respect, as Kaga acknowledges the Fifth Carrier Division's skill. Her growth is also reflected in her increased power through game mechanics, representing her dedication to improvement.

Notable abilities make Kaga one of the most powerful carriers in the fleet. Her armament is themed around traditional Japanese archery, using a yumi bow to launch aircraft from her flight deck, which is worn as a shield on her left arm. Her core strength lies in her massive aircraft capacity, specifically having one of the largest individual plane slots. This allows her to deliver a singular, devastating airstrike that can decimate enemy forces. However, this power is balanced by an uneven slot distribution, making her potentially vulnerable to heavy anti-air fire.

Through remodeling, Kaga can achieve even greater abilities. The Kaga Kai Ni and Kai Ni E variants further increase her combat effectiveness. The Kagi Kai Ni Go is a special remodel that gives her five equipment slots and strong anti-submarine warfare capabilities, allowing her to perform opening anti-submarine attacks and even equip jets. Her ultimate form, Kaga Kai Ni E, also grants her the ability to launch night air attacks under specific conditions without needing specialized night operation personnel, a rare and powerful trait that makes her effective at any hour.
