TV-Series
Description
Gōtarō Katsuragi is a character who appears in the film Shirobako: The Movie, the sequel to the original anime television series. He is a producer working for Western Entertainment, a company involved in anime production financing and management. In this capacity, he is a colleague of Kaede Miyai, an assistant producer who is later assigned to work directly with Aoi Miyamori.
Katsuragi plays a pivotal role at the beginning of the film's story when he approaches Aoi Miyamori with a desperate plea. He is attached to a troubled project, an original feature-length anime film titled Air Amphibious Assault Ship SIVA. He reveals that the studio initially contracted to handle the project, GPU, has failed to produce even the storyboards. Furthermore, he explains that GPU is not just failing to deliver but is also demanding a larger budget, placing the entire production in jeopardy. He begs Miyamori to take over the project and finish the film, a request that sets the main narrative of the movie in motion.
His role is that of a producer who is deeply involved in the business and logistical aspects of anime production, particularly in managing the relationship between different production entities. Later in the film, the crisis with GPU escalates when its president claims that his studio also has rights to the film, threatening to halt production or force a joint venture. Katsuragi is present when this alarming information is delivered to Musashino Animation's president and Aoi Miyamori, highlighting his position as a key liaison in the complicated chain of command for the film's production.
