TV-Series
Description
Jae-ha is the Green Dragon, one of the four legendary Dragon Warriors with the blood of the original green dragon flowing through his veins. When he is first encountered, he is living as a member of Captain Gi-gan's pirate crew in the port town of Awa, having built a life for himself far from the destiny others might expect of him. He is a young man with distinctive green hair and eyes, and his power manifests through his right leg, which grants him the ability of flight.
In terms of personality, Jae-ha is confident, observant, and persistent, often taking a step back to look at the bigger picture of any situation. He is notably vain and takes great pride in his appearance and good looks, and he has a well-documented fondness for beautiful women. This vanity is often played for humor, as he frequently makes flattering comments about himself and revels in attention. Beneath this flirtatious and self-absorbed exterior, however, lies a deeply loyal individual who cares for his comrades and has a particular soft spot for saving damsels in distress. He enjoys using his perceptiveness to tease others, especially Hak and Yona, by pointing out their deeper feelings and flaws in a playful manner.
Jae-ha’s core motivations are tied to a fierce desire for personal freedom. Unlike Kija, who was raised with a deep sense of duty, Jae-ha views the legend of the four dragons and their service to King Hiryuu not as an honor but as a form of imprisonment. He is adamant about living his life on his own terms, acting as himself rather than as the Green Dragon. This philosophy is why he is initially very reluctant to join Princess Yona. He only agrees to accompany her after she proves her own strength of character and sincere determination, which earns his respect and fundamentally changes his view of the destiny that binds them.
His role in the story is that of the fourth warrior to join Yona and Hak on their journey. As a former pirate, he brings a unique set of skills and a pragmatic, worldly perspective to the group. He often serves as the observer who notices subtle conflicts or dangers that others might miss, such as sensing something wrong in a new town. His fighting ability is a tremendous asset, as his power of flight allows him to engage enemies from the air and perform rescues that would otherwise be impossible. He is also a capable unarmed fighter, strong enough to earn the interest of the powerful Hak, who is known as the Thunder Beast.
Jae-ha’s key relationships are complex and evolve over the course of the series. With Yona, he develops a deep respect that slowly grows into romantic feelings. He is frequently shown teasing Yona about Hak’s obvious affection for her, her denseness regarding the matter a source of ongoing comedy. As he falls for her, he experiences internal conflict, worrying that his feelings might be artificially induced by his dragon blood or simply the result of her beauty, which he admires. He ultimately accepts his feelings but chooses not to act on them, recognizing the strong bond between Yona and Hak.
His relationship with Hak is one of mutual respect and playful rivalry. Jae-ha is immediately impressed by Hak's prodigious strength and frequently attempts to recruit him to become a pirate. He also enjoys teasing the stoic warrior about his feelings for Yona, often using suggestive double entendres that annoy Hak. With Kija, the White Dragon, Jae-ha initially looks down on the other man's intense pride and unwavering loyalty, viewing it as a form of blind servitude. This creates a rivalry between the two, though it is often played for humorous effect, such as when Jae-ha’s pervy behavior flusters the more earnest Kija.
Throughout the series, Jae-ha undergoes significant character development. He moves from a man who rejects his destiny to one who willingly embraces his role as a protector of Yona, not because of an ancient prophecy, but because of his personal choice to follow her. He begins to accept his own feelings for her, even if those feelings are complicated and unrequited. His initial cynicism is gradually tempered by the genuine camaraderie he finds with Yona and the other Dragons, and he learns to balance his love of freedom with a sense of responsibility toward his new family.
Notable abilities include his primary power of flight, which he achieves by using his exceptionally strong right leg. He is incredibly agile, able to kick off the air itself and move with a speed and grace that makes him difficult to track. Beyond his supernatural ability, Jae-ha is an agile fighter with a sharp wit and keen observational skills. He has a knack for disguise and infiltration, and he is perceptive enough to recognize when a woman is disguised as a man by her scent, a skill that sometimes earns him the title of pervert.
