Description
Cain Barzad is a retired Holy Knight who first appears during the Vaizel Fight Festival, initially presenting himself as a harmless and often intoxicated old man. This unassuming exterior, however, conceals a much deeper history, as he is a survivor of the destroyed Kingdom of Danafor. Before its fall, Cain was a celebrated knight known by the epithet Barzad the Blaze, a title earned through his powerful command over fire-based magic. His magical ability, which he calls Blaze, allows him to manipulate intense flames at will.
Cain's primary motivation stems from the destruction of his homeland, an event that haunts him due to his absence on a mission at the time of the tragedy, leaving him as one of the only people to survive. This survivor's guilt compels him to seek answers about what truly happened to Danafor and his comrades. When he encounters Meliodas, who was also a Holy Knight of Danafor, he initially believes the rumors that Meliodas was responsible for the kingdom's ruin. This belief fuels his actions during the fighting festival, where he confronts his former ally in a battle born of grief and a desire for the truth. After learning that Meliodas was not the cause of the catastrophe, Cain is able to reconcile with him, demonstrating his capacity for forgiveness and his continued loyalty to his past.
Despite his age and initial presentation, Cain is a skilled and passionate individual who remains deeply proud of his lost kingdom. His personality is a mix of reserved wisdom and surprising enthusiasm; he can be jovial, greeting others with a casual Yo, yet also profoundly serious when defending his ideals or confronting painful memories. Playfully concealing his true strength, he embodies the archetype of a seasoned warrior whose abilities should not be underestimated. This is evident not only in his fight against Meliodas but also in his decision to assist Elizabeth Liones by giving her a small sword to deliver to Meliodas, a gesture that highlights his supportive role in the larger story. Through these actions, Cain Barzad stands as a figure of lost history, enduring loyalty, and the search for closure.
