Description
Liza Landog is a supporting character in the anime Cross Ange Rondo of Angel and Dragon. She serves as the captain of the royal guard of the Misurugi Empire and acts as the personal confidant of Prince Julio Asuka Misurugi. She also maintains a sexual relationship with Julio and uses her influence to manipulate him. Liza holds a deep grudge against Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi, the series protagonist, stemming from Angelise’s public exposure as a Norma and the subsequent execution of her mother. Liza believes that Angelise’s existence as a Norma is an affront and resents the chaos that follows her exile.
Liza is later revealed to be a DRAGON in human form, a spy sent from the DRAGON world to infiltrate the Misurugi household. Her true mission is to locate Aura, a benevolent DRAGON hidden in the human world. She possesses the ability to secrete a drug from her fingernails, which she uses to drug Julio and keep him under her control. She can also open singularities, portals that allow DRAGONs to travel between their world and the world of Mana. In her natural form, she has bat-like wings and a tail, and she can use a hypnotic roar to subdue others.
Throughout the story, Liza manipulates Julio into attacking Arzenal, the island where Norma soldiers are forced to fight DRAGONs. After Julio is killed by Embryo, Liza is captured and tortured by Embryo. He strips her of her dignity, forcing her to wear a muzzle and shackles, reducing her to a humiliated captive. Embryo then gives Liza to Sylvia Ikaruga Misurugi, Angelise’s younger sister, as a slave. Sylvia, believing Liza caused her brother’s death, abuses her cruelly with whips. Liza endures this captivity with defiance but is eventually freed by Momoka, Angelise’s servant, who nurses her back to health.
After her release, Liza opens a portal for the People of Aura to invade Embryo’s sanctuary. She confronts Sylvia again, revealing that it was actually Embryo who killed Julio, which allows her to escape. Liza then aligns with the Norma and the People of Aura, informing them of Embryo’s plan to merge the two worlds. Angelise forgives Liza for her role in the downfall of the Misurugi family, and Liza fights alongside them in the final conflict.
Liza Landog’s development moves from a deceptive and vengeful antagonist to a redeemed ally. Her motivations are initially driven by her mission as a DRAGON spy and her personal hatred for Angelise. Later, survival and a desire to stop Embryo’s destructive plan become her primary goals. Her notable abilities include her DRAGON physiology, manipulation through her drug, and the power to create dimensional portals.
