Description
Kurahashi is a Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department administrator who occupies a senior position within the force during the Sphinx terrorist attacks. When the investigation into the bombings stalls, Kurahashi reaches out to the once-demoted detective Kenjirou Shibazaki, recognizing that only Shibazaki's unconventional deductive abilities can decode the riddles left by Nine and Twelve. Beyond merely offering Shibazaki a chance to return to active duty, Kurahashi acts as a conduit between the investigative team and the department's leadership, providing sensitive information such as the plutonium theft from Aomori and the recurring appearance of the letters VON at linked crime scenes. He also explains to skeptical colleagues the political circumstances behind Shibazaki's earlier demotion, signaling a willingness to circumvent institutional resistance for the sake of solving the crisis. Kurahashi's motivation is professional duty: he wants to stop the attacks and catch those responsible, and he exhibits a calm, pragmatic approach by leaning on Shibazaki's expertise rather than imposing his own authority. Throughout the series, he remains a supportive, behind-the-scenes figure who trusts Shibazaki's judgment and bolsters the investigation with resources and information, though his personal background and interior life are never fleshed out beyond his role as a reliable police official.
