Description
Magical Sapphire is a Kaleidostick-type Mystic Code, a magical artifact created with the ability to draw power from parallel worlds. She functions as the younger sister counterpart to her sibling, Magical Ruby. Originally, Sapphire was assigned to the magus Luviagelita Edelfelt, but she grew weary of the constant and intense quarrels between Luvia and Rin Tohsaka. As a result, like Ruby, she chose to abandon her original master and seek out a new one on her own. Sapphire eventually formed a contract with Miyu Edelfelt, becoming her dedicated partner and enabling her to transform into a Magical Girl.
In terms of physical design, when in her inactive stick form, Magical Sapphire resembles a toy wand. Her appearance features a six-pointed yellow star set within a ring, accompanied by two pairs of butterfly-like wings. The upper wings are larger and blue with white spots, while the lower pair are smaller and black with jagged edges. A blue retractable handle with a white top and brush-like tip completes the design. When she is not being wielded, the handle retracts or is not present.
The personality of Magical Sapphire stands in clear contrast to that of her sister, Ruby. She is depicted as more mature, formal, and serious, taking her responsibilities as a Kaleidostick very seriously. She follows orders diligently and does not approve of frivolous behavior or fooling around, which often puts her at odds with Ruby's more playful and teasing nature. This serious demeanor makes her straightforward and sometimes blunt in her communication. Despite this formality, Sapphire shares her sister's capacity for deep loyalty and care, which she extends primarily to Miyu, whom she accepts as her proper master. This protectiveness also extends to those for whom her master cares. Conversely, she can be quite rude and dismissive toward individuals she considers unworthy, even if she maintains a formal tone.
Throughout the story of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei!, Sapphire plays a crucial role as the steadfast companion to Miyu. Her presence provides the power and means for Miyu to act as a Magical Girl, joining Illyasviel von Einzbern in her mission to collect Class Cards and face various threats. The relationship between Sapphire and Miyu is one of mutual respect and trust, with Sapphire's logical and serious nature complementing Miyu's own reserved and earnest personality. Her dynamic with her sister Ruby is also key, as she frequently serves as a foil to Ruby's chaotic energy, often needing to correct or reprimand her older sister when her antics go too far. During major confrontations, such as the events in the Prisma Causeway, Sapphire has demonstrated unwavering dedication to her master, at one point searching for a captured Miyu and successfully relaying a crucial warning to her allies while following Miyu's instructions to avoid a direct and dangerous rescue attempt.
As a Kaleidostick, Magical Sapphire possesses a potent and versatile suite of abilities identical in function to those of her sister Ruby. Her primary capability is to grant her wielder access to the Mana Plane, an alternate dimension that provides an unlimited supply of magical energy, though the actual amount a user can handle is limited by their own Magic Circuits. She can initiate the transformation of her master into a Magical Girl, which grants enhanced abilities including high-powered magical shots, A-rank magical barriers, physical protection, regeneration, and increased physical strength. Sapphire allows her user to perform Includes and Installs using Class Cards to summon or embody legendary Heroic Spirits. She is capable of autonomous flight and movement when not held, and can establish temporary contracts with other wielders if the situation demands it. An unusual ability unique to the Kaleidosticks is a form of hypnosis that can erase memories, though it does so at the cost of the target losing a single IQ point. Sapphire can also communicate wirelessly with her sister Ruby, or through a physical connection, though magical interference can block this link. A significant weakness is that Sapphire cannot utilize her full Magical Girl abilities without a wielder and will revert from her transformed state if separated from her user for an extended period. Furthermore, the magical outfit she bestows upon her wielder is notably more daring or risque in design compared to Ruby's, a detail that other characters have commented upon.
