TV-Series
Description
Aya Kominato is a male classmate of Futaba Yoshioka in their second year of high school. He stands at 178 centimeters tall and has a slender build, with light brown wavy hair and fairly dark brown eyes. He has a notable background as he is one-quarter French, which gives him slightly distinctive facial features compared to his peers. His birthday is on December 3. He has a younger sister and was raised primarily by an elderly woman he called Aunty, as his parents were often busy. This woman, who also helped him when he was bullied as a child for his appearance and his feminine-sounding name, later passed away, an event that helps him understand the grief experienced by his friend Kou Mabuchi.
In terms of personality, Aya is consistently cheerful, optimistic, and outgoing, often bringing a positive and energetic presence to his group of friends. He is very open and caring, but can also be somewhat playful, dense, and occasionally impulsive. He has a passionate and protective side, especially when it comes to defending people he cares about, and he is known for acting without holding grudges. While he is generally friendly, he can become quite serious and even angry when confronting injustice or when his friends are mistreated, such as when he drives away former classmates who make snide remarks to Kou.
Aya's primary motivation throughout the story is his deep and long-standing affection for his classmate, Shuko Murao. He considers her his hero and is persistent in his attempts to win her heart, even though she initially has feelings for another person. He serves as a key supporting figure within the main friend group, particularly as the sole confidant for Kou Mabuchi's true feelings. His role often involves providing emotional support, offering advice, and acting as a loyal and stabilizing presence among his more conflicted peers.
His most significant relationship is with Shuko Murao. He has been close to her since their first year of high school and is very protective of her, especially concerning her feelings for their teacher, Yoichi Tanaka. Aya dislikes Mr. Tanaka because he is the object of Shuko's affection, and after she confesses to the teacher, Aya openly declares his rivalry. His persistent and sincere efforts eventually pay off, and he and Shuko become a couple.
Aya's friendship with Kou Mabuchi is also crucial. He initially disliked Kou because of his relation to Mr. Tanaka, but their friendship grows as they spend time together. Aya becomes the only person to whom Kou reveals his romantic feelings for Futaba Yoshioka, and Aya actively supports Kou in this regard. He values Kou as a true friend and is someone Kou can speak to honestly.
He gets along well with Futaba Yoshioka, as they share similarly cheerful personalities. His relationship with Yuri Makita starts off poorly when he unintentionally eats a cupcake that was important to her during a leadership training camp, but they eventually end up on good terms.
Over the course of the series, Aya shows significant development, particularly in his emotional maturity. He moves from being someone with an unrequited crush to successfully building a reciprocal romantic relationship with Shuko. He also learns to understand and support his friends more deeply, such as when he reconciles with Kou after a misunderstanding during a school trip, where he mistook Shuko's kindness for romantic interest. His personal growth is also tied to understanding loss through the death of his caretaker, which gives him greater empathy for Kou's past pain.
Regarding abilities, Aya excels academically in mathematics but struggles with art. He is organized and enthusiastic, serving as a member of the event committee at school. Outside of school, he enjoys eating yakiniku and Black Thunder chocolate bars, and he likes drinking peach tea and the color pink.
