Description
Chiyo Sakura is a sixteen-year-old second-year high school student at Roman Academy, where she is a member of Class 2-A and the Art Club. She lives with her parents and has a younger brother who is in middle school. Chiyo is notably petite, standing at 145 centimeters tall, a height that often makes her appear younger than her classmates. Her most distinctive physical features are her long orange hair tied on both sides with large red ribbons decorated with white polka dots. She has a personal preference for dressing in a cute style.

Chiyo has a bright, cheerful, and sincere personality. She is generally energetic and excitable, which sometimes causes her imagination to run wild or leads her to misjudge situations. Within her circle of friends, who have a wide range of eccentric personalities, Chiyo often serves as the voice of reason, providing sharp reactions to their odd behavior. Despite sometimes being surprised or annoyed by her friends' antics, she remains friendly and accepting toward them, even when she does not fully understand why others are bothered by someone. Her naivete can make her a slow judge of character in certain social situations.

The primary motivating force in Chiyo's life is her deep romantic feelings for her classmate, Umetarou Nozaki. The story begins when she attempts to confess her love to him; however, due to nervousness, she tells him "I'm your fan" instead. Nozaki misunderstands this as admiration for his secret career as a published shoujo manga artist who works under the pen name Yumeno Sakiko. He gives her an autograph and subsequently recruits her as an assistant to help draw his manga. Chiyo accepts this position to remain close to him, and her continued attempts to win his affection form the emotional core of her role in the story. Her efforts are consistently frustrated by a combination of bad luck and Nozaki's profound obliviousness to romantic matters, though she never gives up and continues to work hard by his side. Her dedication to him is such that others have noted her borderline obsessive fixation, sometimes comparing her behavior to that of a stalker.

Chiyo's most significant relationship is with Nozaki himself. While he remains unaware of the true nature of her feelings, he comes to trust her greatly as an assistant, and it is suggested that she becomes his most relied-upon collaborator, as he admits he would be most shocked if she ever quit. Chiyo forms key friendships with other main characters as well. She works alongside Mikoto Mikoshiba, another assistant, and despite his tendency to put on a playboy front, she finds him easy to be around once she learns of his more shy and earnest true nature. She is also close friends with her classmate Yuzuki Seo, whose blunt personality does not seem to bother her. She gets along well with Yuu Kashima, the school's "prince," though she is mostly unaffected by Kashima's charm because her attention is solely on Nozaki. Her relationship with upperclassman Masayuki Hori is also amicable, and he is among those who joke about her expertise regarding all things related to Nozaki.

Over the course of the story, Chiyo's role evolves from a distant admirer to a trusted colleague and close friend to Nozaki. Although her romantic situation does not progress in a conventional way, she grows more integrated into his world and finds a genuine sense of belonging as part of his manga production team. Her feelings for him remain steadfast, and she continues to support his work with enthusiasm.

Chiyo possesses several notable abilities related to art. She is a skilled painter who specializes in watercolors, and as Nozaki's assistant, her primary job is to fill in the black areas, known as beta work, which she performs with great precision and speed. She is also capable of copying other drawings accurately just by looking at them. However, she has difficulty drawing backgrounds and crowd scenes, and she struggles with anatomy and modifying poses to look natural. Outside of art, she is not particularly skilled, as she struggles with team sports and academic subjects like physics and science. Her hobbies include collecting cute items and sweets, with cheesecake being her favorite food, while she dislikes green curry.
