Description
Prince Demande is the leader of the Black Moon Clan in the anime Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, serving as the main antagonist of the Black Moon arc. He is the prince of the Black Moon people, a group of humans who live in self-imposed exile on the dark planet Nemesis in the 30th century. The Black Moon Clan originated from humans who rejected the Silver Millennium for using the Legendary Silver Crystal to extend human life, which they viewed as defying the natural order. Demande personally resents the people of Crystal Tokyo, the utopian city ruled by Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion, believing that their long lifespans are corrupt and wrong. Under the influence of the mysterious Wiseman, he draws upon the power of the Malefic Black Crystal of Nemesis and leads the clan in an assault on Crystal Tokyo with the goal of taking over the Earth.

In terms of personality, Demande is described by his younger brother Saphir as dangerous, unstable, destructive, and prone to acting on sudden impulse, with his emotions often distracting him. He is an effective commander who coordinates his subordinates well and proves capable of capturing most of the Sailor Guardians. At the same time, he is driven by a powerful fixation on Neo-Queen Serenity, whom he desires for himself despite her devotion to King Endymion. When he follows Chibiusa back in time, he transfers that fixation to her past self, Sailor Moon, and repeatedly attempts to capture and control her. During her captivity in Sailor Moon Crystal, he kisses and handles a drugged and barely conscious Usagi, reflecting the obsessive nature of his interest in her.

Demande's motivations center on his hatred of Crystal Tokyo and what it represents. He sees the immortality granted by the Legendary Silver Crystal as an affront to the natural order, and he wants to overthrow the rule of Neo-Queen Serenity. His campaign is complicated by his infatuation with the queen herself, as he wishes to claim both her and the Silver Crystal for his own purposes. He initially believes that Wiseman is guiding the Black Moon Clan toward a worthy goal, but he eventually realizes that he has been manipulated and used. Once his ambitions appear hopeless, his motivation turns destructive, and he attempts to erase all of existence rather than accept defeat.

In the story of the Black Moon arc, Demande orchestrates the clan's operations in both the 30th century and the past. He oversees the devastation of Crystal Tokyo, which forces Chibiusa to flee back in time to seek help. He then follows her to the present, where he orders the abductions of Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, and Sailor Jupiter, and later captures Sailor Moon after she arrives in the future. He takes her to Nemesis, where her powers are drained while she is held captive, though she eventually escapes and frees her friends. As the arc progresses, Demande begins to question Wiseman's identity and intentions, especially after seeing what happens to those who displease him. He rebels openly, destroys his own brother Saphir when Saphir attacks him under Wiseman's control, and launches an attack that strips away Wiseman's disguise and reveals his true form. In the final battle, Demande obtains two Legendary Silver Crystals and attempts to bring them together, which would destroy the universe through a time paradox. Sailor Pluto stops time to prevent this, sacrificing her own life. Demande ultimately dies shielding Sailor Moon from Wiseman's attack, and his final words address her as Queen.

Demande's most significant relationship is with his younger brother Saphir. Saphir is loyal to him and offers a candid assessment of his character, and their bond is central to Demande's later turn. When Demande is forced to destroy Saphir, he expresses remorse and acknowledges that he failed his brother by dragging him into the conflict. His relationship with Wiseman is one of manipulation, beginning with apparent loyalty and ending in open confrontation once the deception is exposed. His relationship with Sailor Moon and Neo-Queen Serenity is defined by obsession, as he views them as objects of desire and as symbols of the order he resents. He also commands the other members of the Black Moon Clan, directing their efforts to capture the Sailor Guardians.

Demande's development follows a path from confident ruler and conqueror to obsessed captor, then to disillusioned rebel, and finally to a self-sacrificing figure. Over the course of the arc, he moves from trusting Wiseman to challenging him, and his actions become increasingly desperate as his position deteriorates. His realization that he was exploited changes the direction of his final confrontation, and his decision to protect Sailor Moon from Wiseman's attack marks the end of his arc.

Demande possesses several notable abilities. He has a third eye that appears on his forehead at the site of his dark moon symbol, which he can use to paralyze anyone who looks into it and to control those he has captured. This same ability allows him to resist and counter attempts to brainwash him, and he uses it to deceive Wiseman into believing he remained under control. He can also fire powerful energy blasts at his opponents, encapsulate people such as Sailor Moon in dark orbs, and transport them to his headquarters over a distance. His power is amplified by the Malefic Black Crystal of Nemesis and by the influence of Wiseman.
