Description
Hiroto Tonomachi is a secondary character in Date A Live II, serving primarily as a classmate and close friend of the protagonist, Shido Itsuka, at Raizen High School. He is a physically average sixteen-year-old boy with black hair and dark gray eyes, standing at a height of 175 centimeters and weighing 62 kilograms with B blood type. As a student, he is a member of class 2-4 and is known for his energetic and expressive personality.

In terms of personality, Tonomachi is portrayed as an extroverted and emotionally expressive teenage boy who is deeply interested in romance, gossip, and matters related to the opposite sex. He has a habit of collecting the latest rumors and news around the school and is not shy about sharing his opinions, often displaying a lively and somewhat comedic demeanor. A running gag associated with his character is his lack of popularity with girls, which is a source of frequent jealousy and frustration for him. This is highlighted by a list he himself created called the Most Wanted Males ranking, where he placed a distant 358th, whereas his friend Shido ranked 52nd. He is also noted to have a particular fondness for nurses over maids and has an interest in bishoujo games.

His role in the story is mostly that of a bystander who provides a normal high school perspective on the extraordinary events happening around Shido. Tonomachi remains unaware of Shido's secret double life involving Spirits and the organization Ratatoskr. He often appears in scenes at school, commenting on the growing number of attractive girls who seem to be drawn to his friend, including Tohka Yatogami and Origami Tobiichi. In Date A Live II, his appearances continue to reinforce his role as comic relief and as a representation of a typical student, unaware of the supernatural crises unfolding.

Regarding key relationships, his primary connection is with Shido Itsuka, whom he considers a best friend. Their friendship is typical of teenage boys, filled with teasing, shared complaints about school life, and occasional envy on Tonomachi's part. He also has a notable, albeit one-sided, moment of infatuation when he becomes interested in Shido's female-disguised persona, Shiori Itsuka. While generally unpopular, there are indications that his circumstances change later in the overall series, as he eventually begins a relationship with a classmate named Mii Fujibakuma.

Over the course of the series, Tonomachi shows minimal development in terms of plot significance, maintaining his role as a source of comic relief and a normal contrast to the escalating spirit conflicts. He does not possess any supernatural abilities or combat skills; his only notable traits are his social nature and his talent for gathering and spreading information and rumors around the school. His motivations are simple and reflect those of a typical high school boy: to navigate his social life, find romantic success, and stay abreast of the latest gossip.
