TV-Series
Description
Kobungo Inuta is one of the Eight Dog Warriors in the series, holding the bead that represents fraternity. His family runs the Konaya bed-and-breakfast inn, and he possesses a natural, strong inclination for caring for the needs of others. His background is deeply marked by a tragic event that took place three years before the main story, when he volunteered as a foot soldier and accompanied his foster brother, Genpachi Inukai, on a deployment to a remote northern village to contain a dangerous incident. There, both were brutally attacked by man-eating demons. They survived this ordeal, but their bodies were fundamentally altered, granting them the ability to transform into demons themselves. He bears a peony-shaped birthmark on his lower back, which identifies him as one of the eight chosen warriors.

In terms of personality, Kobungo is a highly excitable, passionate, and stubborn person, particularly when it comes to protecting those he cares about. He is fiercely loyal to his foster brother Genpachi and is constantly worried about his well-being, actively working to free him when Genpachi is placed in confinement. He is the most warm and reliable presence among the bead holders, deeply invested in the safety and comfort of his friends, and often acts as an approachable, friendly member of the group. Despite his monstrous alter ego, his core character is gentle and caring. His primary motivation revolves around protecting his family, his friends, and fulfilling his duty as a Dog Warrior. He is actively involved in seeking out the other bead holders and standing with them against the threats they face from demonic spirits and the Imperial Church.

Kobungo’s role in the story is that of a loyal protector and a grounding, friendly force within the group. His deep bond with his foster brother Genpachi is a core part of his character, as they share the same traumatic past and the same monstrous power. He develops similarly close bonds of brotherhood with the other warriors, including Shino Inuzuka and Sousuke Inukawa, always looking out for them. His development over the course of the series involves learning to fully accept his transformed state not as a curse, but as a strength that he can use to save and protect others. He moves from being the traumatized survivor of the northern incident to becoming a confident, reliable, and formidable warrior. His notable abilities include immense physical strength and his demon transformation, which turns him into a large, powerful combatant capable of standing against deadly spirits. He is also highly skilled in hospitality and looking after people, using the inn as a base of operations to support his comrades.
