Description
Akari is one of the five Fantasista Dolls who serves under the main protagonist, Uzume Uno. Her appearance is distinct, featuring short, gray or silver-white hair often tied with a large, dark-colored ribbon. She has striking reddish-orange eyes and typically wears a gothic lolita-style dress in shades of gray and black, complemented by dark knee-high socks and black Mary Jane shoes. A notable accessory is a small teddy bear often seen on her arm.
In terms of personality, Akari is characterized as being extremely quiet, reserved, and almost expressionless, a trait often described as a "three-no" or emotionless demeanor. Despite this cool exterior, she possesses a complex inner world. She has a calm and collected nature, approaching situations with a level-headedness that makes her a reliable presence in a fight. Her manner is consistently polite and formal, especially when addressing her master.
Akari's primary motivation is rooted in a painful past experience of being abandoned by a previous master. This trauma causes her to instinctively keep others at a distance to protect herself from the potential pain of being discarded again. Despite this fear, her genuine feelings for her current master, Uzume, grow stronger. Her actions are largely driven by a desire to overcome this fear and to protect the bond she is slowly forming with Uzume, even when faced with temptations to switch to a seemingly more powerful master.
Within the narrative, Akari is a core member of Uzume's card deck and participates in battles against other Doll masters. She holds a specific role among the five Dolls, often being the one responsible for waking Uzume up in the morning, using her weapon in a non-violent manner for this daily task. In combat, she is a formidable fighter whose specialty is using a yo-yo as her primary weapon, though she also demonstrates a surprising and thorough knowledge of firearms. Her skills are not limited to combat; she is also noted for her proficiency in housework.
Key relationships define her character arc. Her relationship with Uzume is central, as she transitions from a state of cautious distance to one of genuine loyalty and affection. She also interacts with her fellow Dolls, including Katia, Shimeji, Madeleine, and Satsara, forming a team that relies on each other. A pivotal moment in her development occurs when she is invited by another character, Mīna, to join a different card group with the promise of becoming Mīna's master. Akari ultimately rejects this offer, choosing to remain with Uzume, an act that solidifies her personal growth and allows her to help save Mīna from becoming a Doll herself. Through this journey, she learns to confront her abandonment issues and embrace the new, trusting relationship she has built.
