TV-Series
Description
Chiho Sasaki is a sixteen-year-old high school student who also works part-time at the MgRonald's fast food restaurant in Sasazuka, Japan. She is a young woman of petite stature, standing 150 centimeters tall, with light auburn hair often styled with dark blue ribbons and large amber eyes. As a student, she wears the standard uniform of Sasahata North High School, and while working at MgRonald's, she wears the restaurant's red shirt, black skirt, and visor cap. Chiho comes from an ordinary family; her father, Senichi Sasaki, is a police officer who initially had a memorable encounter with Maou and Ashiya, and her mother is named Riho.
Chiho has a personality that is notably strong-willed, polite, and friendly. She is generally cheerful and optimistic, bringing a warm and pleasant energy to her interactions. Despite her youth and seemingly gentle demeanor, she possesses a surprising amount of assertiveness and is not afraid to stand up for herself or for what she believes is right. This is particularly evident when she argues with Emi Yusa early in their acquaintance, showing she is no pushover. She can also become visibly jealous, especially when she perceives Maou and Emi growing close, viewing Emi as a rival for his affection. While she can be naive in some situations, Chiho also shows moments of emotional maturity and serves as a grounding presence, often acting as the heart of the group by helping to mediate conflicts between the headstrong Maou and Emi.
Her primary motivation is her deep and genuine affection for Sadao Maou, who is secretly the Devil King Satan from the world of Ente Isla. She developed this crush from working alongside him, initially attracted to his hardworking and kind nature, which persisted even after she learned his true identity. Her actions are largely driven by a desire to support him, stay by his side, and help him adjust to life in Japan. She hopes for a future where she can be a source of happiness for him and help unify the different members of his group, which includes former enemies and allies alike. Her desire to become a dependable adult is also a subtle motivation, as she sometimes feels insecure about her age and lack of power compared to the older, supernaturally-gifted characters around her.
Chiho plays a significant and evolving role in the story. She begins as an ordinary human and love interest who is unaware of the supernatural conflict. After being accidentally drawn into the world of Ente Isla through a hypnosis spell, she becomes a confidante and a crucial moral compass for Maou and the others. Her role expands beyond that of a simple bystander; she becomes an active, if unconventional, member of Maou's group, learning supernatural communication skills and even being appointed a Demon General, a title that reflects her importance in Maou's forces on Earth. She is instrumental in key missions, such as helping to retrieve a powerful weapon needed to breach the domain of angels. Her ability to see the good in Maou and act as a bridge between him and the Hero, Emi, is central to the plot's development.
Her key relationships define much of her character arc. Her feelings for Sadao Maou are the most central; while he is often oblivious to the depth of her affection, he deeply appreciates her loyalty and kindness. Her relationship with Emi Yusa is complex and evolves from jealousy and rivalry to a close, though sometimes awkward, friendship. Chiho often serves as Emi's morality pet, her words of reason able to cut through Emi's more violent impulses. She grows close to Shirou Ashiya and Suzuno Kamazuki as well, initially experiencing jealousy towards Suzuno but ultimately forming a solid friendship with her after a misunderstanding is resolved. Chiho's loyalty and ability to forgive are highlighted when she feels deeply hurt by Suzuno's betrayal but still tries to persuade her to see reason.
Throughout the series, Chiho undergoes notable development. She transforms from a clumsy part-timer who often spilled fries into a reliable and skilled employee, considered Maou's most promising disciple. Her personal journey involves moving from a naive schoolgirl with a crush to a more self-aware young woman who understands the complexities of her feelings and the dangerous world she has become a part of. She learns to assert her own maturity and agency, growing resentful when she feels treated dismissively and actively seeking to be more helpful. While she confesses her love to Maou, the story follows her as she navigates the lack of an immediate response, learning to be a steadfast friend and ally first. By the conclusion of the light novels, her bond with Maou evolves into an implied romantic partnership, showcasing her growth from an admirer to a true partner.
Despite being a normal human, Chiho gains several notable abilities through her exposure to the people from Ente Isla. Due to the lingering effects of a hypnosis spell intended for her father, she gains the ability to hear and understand the language of Ente Isla as a native speaker would. Later, with training from characters like Sariel, Emi, and Suzuno, she masters Idea Link, a form of telepathic communication. She is also a skilled athlete, being an active and highly ranked member of her school's archery club, holding a first kyu rank which indicates a high level of proficiency. In a critical moment, she was temporarily empowered by a magical artifact to use her archery skills to fight against supernatural angels, demonstrating her potential as a combatant when augmented.
