Bobby is a wandering monk who travels to Butsumetsu City after sensing a large amount of misfortune concentrated in the area. He is a perverted and eccentric individual whose lecherous behavior is a dominant and immediate aspect of his personality. Upon arriving, he quickly attaches himself to the high school student Ichiko Sakura, initially grabbing her feet and asking to rest at her house. Once inside, he is discovered smothering himself in her undergarments, solidifying his reputation as a deviant.

Despite his inappropriate conduct, Bobby possesses genuine spiritual abilities and knowledge. He identifies himself as a monk who can help deal with bad spirits and correctly identifies that a negative energy, or bad spirit, is following Ichiko. This spirit is, in fact, the poverty god Momiji. He further explains that he sensed a large amount of negative energy emanating from Momiji, while Ichiko herself radiates a high level of positive energy. To assist Ichiko in combating the poverty god, Bobby provides her with a shinai (a bamboo sword) named Soumin Shourai, which is said to be blessed with the power of Susano-o. This weapon allows Ichiko to manifest her good fortune into various creatures to fight on her behalf.

Bobby's primary role in the story is that of an unusual ally to Ichiko in her conflict with Momiji. Their key relationship is a temporary, pragmatic partnership formed to drive the poverty god out of Ichiko's home.
