Description
Akatsuki Ōsawa is the sixteen-year-old protagonist of his story, a tall young man with messy dark blue hair and blue eyes who stands approximately 185 centimeters tall. His background is defined by his extraordinary journey as one of many individuals summoned to the parallel world of Alayzard, where he spent years fighting in a war against the Demon King Garius. Unlike the typical heroic narrative, Ōsawa ultimately defeated the Demon King alone, but in the fallen ruler's dying moments, he was entrusted with a profound responsibility: to protect Garius's daughter, Miu, and take her away from Alayzard to ensure her safety. Accepting this charge, Ōsawa returned to Earth with the unconscious girl, fabricating a story that she was his long-lost younger sister named Miu Ōsawa. Upon their return, both enrolled in the international educational institution known as Babel, which is designed to train and monitor young people who have developed special abilities after being spirited away to other worlds.
In terms of personality, Ōsawa presents a complex blend of traits that make him simultaneously a rogue and a hero. He is generally laid-back, confident to the point of appearing lazy, and possesses a notoriously perverted streak that manifests in his habit of stealing women's undergarments without removing their outer clothing or using his abilities to playfully humiliate female opponents. However, this behavior is rarely malicious. Instead, it often serves specific purposes, such as disabling female attackers without causing them physical harm or using embarrassment as a strange form of bonding. Beneath this provocative exterior lies a deeply chivalrous core. Ōsawa holds a personal creed that he cannot tolerate seeing a woman cry, and he will go to considerable lengths to comfort or protect them, even if his methods are unconventional and sometimes crude. He is not driven by a desire for recognition or glory, having earned the moniker "Rogue Hero" as an insult from those who misunderstood his actions, a title he accepted without complaint.
Ōsawa's motivations are rooted in a personal sense of duty and a rejection of hypocrisy. He accepted the Demon King's dying wish without hesitation, understanding that Miu would be hunted or exploited if left in Alayzard. This sense of protection extends to his broader worldview. He believes that a world where women shed tears is fundamentally wrong and acts on that belief. His motivations are further complicated by his family history. His father is the founder of the world's most powerful terrorist organization, Scarlet Dusk, while his older brother is a high-ranking operative within Coccoon, the organization that seeks to control the world. Ōsawa is determined to stop both of them, driven by past family tragedy involving the death of his biological younger sister, Miu, whose name he gave to his adopted sister as a tribute.
Within the story's narrative, Ōsawa serves as the central figure whose actions drive the plot forward. As a new student at Babel, he quickly establishes himself as an exceptionally powerful individual, far surpassing most of his peers. He is assigned to Class B initially but demonstrates abilities that rival or exceed those of higher-ranked students. His presence at Babel is disruptive not only because of his perverted antics but also because of the secrets he carries, particularly Miu's true identity as the Demon King's daughter. Throughout the series, he confronts various antagonists who threaten Miu, including agents from Alayzard who seek to capture her and political forces within his own world who have their own agendas. His role is that of a guardian and a rebel, someone who operates outside established systems to do what he believes is right.
Key relationships define much of Ōsawa's character development. His most important relationship is with Miu Ōsawa, the girl he saved and now lives with under the guise of being her brother. Initially hostile toward him as her father's killer, Miu gradually comes to trust and love him as she witnesses his genuine care and protection. Ōsawa, in turn, develops deep feelings for her, though he continues to act in his typical roguish manner. He also forms friendships with other female students at Babel, including Chikage Izumi and Kuzuha Dōmoto, often using his provocative methods to help Miu bond with them. His relationship with authority figures, particularly the Babel Student Council, is antagonistic, as he frequently clashes with them due to his refusal to follow rules and his overwhelming power.
Throughout the narrative, Ōsawa undergoes subtle but significant development. He begins as a hero who has already completed his grand quest of defeating a Demon King, but he must now navigate the complexities of everyday life and politics in his original world. The story shows him transitioning from a solitary figure who operates alone to someone who builds a network of allies and friends. His decision to form the Independent Genesis Organization Noah, which he leads as its director, represents his growth from a rogue operative to a leader who can challenge the major powers of his world.
Ōsawa's notable abilities set him apart from others who have returned from parallel worlds. Unlike most returnees who rely on magic, he cannot use magic spells at all. Instead, he wields a martial art known as Renkan Keikikou, which he learned from the Fist Saint Granseiz in the divine realm. This technique allows him to manipulate the internal energy, or ki, within himself, others, and the surrounding atmosphere. By controlling this energy, he can enhance his physical abilities to superhuman levels, harden his body against attacks, accelerate his natural healing, and sharpen his senses. He can project this energy as destructive projectiles that bypass conventional magical defenses, create anti-magic fields, and even manipulate the internal organs or bodily functions of others. Additionally, he can absorb the ki of opponents to temporarily gain their strength. His weapon is a massive black sword called Laevateinn, which he summons using seven Arms Devices, whereas most individuals require only one. This sword can grow even larger and more powerful when he uses eight devices, gaining an axe-like blade. He also possesses a supernatural motorcycle named Sleipnir, a sentient vehicle that chooses its own master and obeys only Ōsawa, capable of incredible speed and power. His combination of physical prowess, unique energy manipulation, and unorthodox tactics makes him one of the most formidable fighters in his world, a true rogue hero who operates by his own rules.
