Description
Izumo Kamurogi is the supreme commander of the Altairian forces and the central authority figure opposing the protagonists. His origins are tied to a grave crisis afflicting his home world, Altair, which suffers from the "Curse of Eve." This phenomenon resulted in the death of all women on the planet and the inability to give birth to new female children, pushing his society to the brink of extinction. In an effort to save his people, Izumo leads a campaign of abductions against the parallel world of Vega, seeking rare female individuals known as Rare Igler, who possess the unique ability to survive the dimensional transfer and potentially become a new Eve for Altair.

On the surface, Izumo is a stoic, calm, and highly competent commander who carries the immense weight of his dying world on his shoulders. He views his aggressive campaign not as an act of simple conquest, but as a necessary holy war for Altair's survival. However, this professional composure is a complete contrast to the passionate turmoil he experiences in his personal life. His calm demeanor can instantly shatter, replaced by intense fury, whenever a particular person is threatened: a woman named Alicia. His actions are often driven by a deep-seated desire to protect her, revealing that his motivations are far more personal than his public role as a commander would suggest.

As the story progresses, Izumos motivations become deeply intertwined with his past and his secret family. Years before the main events, while on a reconnaissance mission to Vega, his ship crashed. He was rescued and nursed back to health by Alicia, a woman he quickly realized was a Rare Igler. During his time with her on Vega, they fell in love and had a son, Amata. The shadow of Altair loomed over them, and he was ultimately forced to return to his homeworld with Alicia, placing her into a state of suspended animation to protect her from the curse that would otherwise warp or kill her. This tragic history makes his primary motivation twofold: to save his species by finding a viable Eve, and to protect Alicia, the woman he loves, and the son he was forced to leave behind.

In the narrative, Izumo serves as the primary antagonist, representing the military might of Altair. He commands from his flagship, leads the abduction missions, and pilots a powerful custom mecha called the Afra Gnis directly into battle. He is the direct superior to the aggressive Jin and the wild, unpredictable Kagura, and he shares a wary and deeply suspicious relationship with the scheming immortal, Touma no Mikage. He later discovers that his son, Amata, is an Element user on the opposing side. This revelation adds a tragic layer to their confrontations, as Izumo recognizes the "boy with wings" as his own lost child.

The key relationship in Izumos life is with Alicia. She represents his one moment of personal happiness and the cause of his most desperate actions. His duty to Altair constantly wars with his love for her. Another crucial relationship is with his son, Amata. Izumo feels the pain of being separated from his son, and their eventual confrontation carries a weight of unspoken paternal regret. He also has a complicated relationship with his mother, Orisa, who created the Iron C system. This massive energy plant was intended to bring prosperity to Altair but ultimately caused the environmental imbalance that led to the Curse of Eve, making Izumo feel responsible for the very crisis he is trying to solve.

Throughout the series, Izumo undergoes a significant development shift from a seemingly pure antagonist to a tragic, anti-villain figure. Initially presented as the collected enemy commander, his personal history is slowly revealed, building sympathy for his cause. His development culminates in his final battle against the Mythical Aquarion. During the fight, Mikage uses his powers to attack Alicias stasis pod. The distraction costs Izumo dearly, and he is mortally wounded by his own subordinate, Kagura. As he lies dying, he realizes the cruel irony that the Iron C system his family pioneered is the root cause of the Eve's Curse. In his final moments, he is reconciled with his son, Amata, who arrives to see him. He passes away, finally at peace as his spirit departs alongside the spiritual manifestation of Alicia, leaving his hopes for the future with his son.

Izumo is notable for his personal combat abilities, which rival those of the protagonists Element users. He is an exceptionally powerful pilot, able to control his mecha, the Afra Gnis, with devastating efficiency. This unique machine features a binder system on its back that can absorb incoming long-range attacks, convert the energy, and return it to the sender at double the original power, making it virtually invincible at a distance. His final desperation attack, the Altair Cannon, is a weapon of immense power that drains energy from his entire dying homeworld, a final act symbolizing his desperate commitment to his people.
