TV-Series
Description
Andy W. Hole is a male Element candidate and student at the Neo-DEAVA Holy Angel Academy, recognizable by the bucket hat he always wears. At the start of the series, Andy is an inveterate optimist and a thrill-seeker, driven by an almost obsessive desire for new experiences, particularly those involving girls. His primary motivation for enrolling in the academy is to meet and form unions with female Elements. He is boisterous, impetuous, and has a knack for roping others into his schemes, such as when he dubs Amata and Jin his Hole Digging Bros and coerces them into digging tunnels or planning secret pajama parties. Despite his lecherous tendencies, he is never crude or malicious; his actions are underpinned by a genuine compassion for others, making him approachable and well-liked by his female classmates even as he tries to tunnel into their changing rooms.
In the story, Andy acts as a catalyst for others, his stubborn devotion pushing his friends to see the world in new ways. His role is often that of comedic relief, as his repeated attempts to achieve a co-ed union are consistently thwarted by circumstance or enemy attack. However, his character deepens significantly through his relationship with his classmate, Mix. The two are natural opposites, both in personality and in their Element abilities. While Andy’s power is to create holes by exploiting structural weaknesses, Mix’s is to fill them, leading to constant bickering. This rivalry eventually blossoms into genuine affection. When Andy recognizes the root of Mix’s prejudice against men, he takes it as a personal challenge to help her overcome her trauma, even taking the brunt of an enemy attack for her. His infatuation with the abstract idea of girls shifts into a single-minded and devoted love for Mix.
Andy’s development is marked by his extreme emotional swings. His inability to handle his feelings often causes him to lose control of his powers. When a misunderstanding ruins his confession to Mix, he falls into a deep despair, unconsciously digging holes to escape reality as a black aura emanates from him. This despair turns to cold ruthlessness when Mix is captured by the enemy, and he is driven by an obsessive need to eliminate every obstacle in his path to rescue her. His devotion is put to the ultimate test when he discovers that Mix has been transformed into a man and brainwashed. Despite his initial fixation on girls, Andy ultimately accepts her completely, famously declaring that he would love her even if she were a guy. This acceptance is key to breaking the brainwashing and finally allowing them to achieve a union.
Andy’s notable abilities stem from his Element power, known as the Digging Force. This allows him to instinctively perceive the weak points in the molecular structure of any material and gouge it out, effectively creating holes. He uses this power to dig tunnels through the academy's walls and ground. After undergoing a special training regimen with Fudo Zen, his power is greatly enhanced, allowing him to carve out large sections of space with just a touch. In a state of emotional collapse, his power can go out of control, creating micro black holes. However, he cannot directly use this ability on a living creature, only on inanimate objects and structures.
