Liliana il Grazioso Merlo Turan is the elder princess of the Kingdom of Turan. In contrast to her more determined younger sister, Millia il Velch Cutrettola Turan, Liliana is a quietly graceful woman. She is highly skilled in politics and, because her father is bedridden, she serves as regent and is essentially responsible for the governing of Turan. Her poised and intelligent demeanor makes her an effective leader, though her life takes a dramatic turn when the Ades Federation invades her kingdom. Early in the conflict, Liliana is captured by the Federation's Premier, Luscinia Hāfez, because she possesses a unique ability: she can communicate with and control one of the Exiles, acting as a Key. Luscinia activates her, causing the Turan Exile to descend to Earth and destroy the capital of Iglasia, which results in the death of the King of Turan and the kingdom's surrender. Liliana is then forced into a position where she must cooperate with the Federation to ensure the survival of her people, though her true intentions remain clouded for much of the series. Her relationship with Luscinia is one of political necessity and shared secrets, and her bond with her younger sister Millia is central to her identity as a role model even when separated. Liliana's journey is defined by sacrifice: she loses her autonomy and eventually her life in the pursuit of a solution to the global conflict.
