TV-Series
Description
Cheetu is a character from the Chimera Ant arc, serving as a Squadron Leader within the Chimera Ant army. His physical form is a humanoid cheetah, characterized by a tall and slender build. He has white fur on his chest and thighs, long purple hair on his head, a feline muzzle, and distinct purple lines beneath his eyes, similar to a cheetah's tear marks. His only clothing is a pair of cut-off blue shorts.
His personality is marked by extreme simplicity, overconfidence, and arrogance. Cheetu is perpetually impressed with his own speed, which he considers his greatest and only necessary asset. Unlike many other Chimera Ants who develop grand ambitions or a taste for the thrill of killing, Cheetu is largely content with being the fastest. He enjoys fighting primarily as a way to boast and show off his abilities rather than for any deeper purpose or enjoyment of combat. This simple-mindedness is his greatest flaw, as he possesses almost no analytical skills, fails to pay attention to his surroundings, and cannot accurately gauge the power of his opponents. His lack of intelligence is a trait that more experienced Hunters, particularly Morel Mackernasey, exploit to defeat him.
Cheetu's motivations are driven by this need for recognition of his speed. He has no grander plan for conquest or evolution like some of his kin. After the birth of the Chimera Ant King, Meruem, and the death of the Queen, Cheetu leaves the nest to establish his own territory, declaring himself the Speed King. He begins rampaging through human cities, seeking faster and more challenging opponents to prove his superiority. A confrontation with the Hunters Morel and Knuckle Bine leaves him frustrated, as his speed alone is not enough to defeat them. This encounter motivates him to seek greater power, leading him to pledge fealty to the King in exchange for learning Nen abilities from the Royal Guard, Shaiapouf.
Cheetu's role in the story is that of a secondary antagonist and a showcase of the dangers posed by the Chimera Ants, balanced against the experience and cunning of professional Hunters. He serves as a direct opponent for Morel and Knuckle, illustrating that raw physical talent and speed are insufficient against strategic thinking. His repeated failures and overconfidence provide moments of tension leavened with dark humor. His destiny is to be swiftly crushed by the assassin Silva Zoldyck after he foolishly attempts to challenge Silva's father, Zeno, demonstrating his fatal inability to recognize overwhelming power.
Key relationships include his rivalry with Morel Mackernasey, who openly mocks Cheetu's stupidity and whom Cheetu is desperate to defeat. He also allies with fellow Squadron Leader Leol (formerly Hagya), who helps remove a Nen curse from him and directs him to the palace to gain new powers. Cheetu swears loyalty to Shaiapouf, the Royal Guard, who grants him his Nen abilities. Beyond these, he shows little interest in complex social bonds, viewing his underlings as subordinates without significant emotional attachment.
Cheetu's development is not one of emotional maturation but of escalating desperation and misguided creativity. He begins as a purely physical threat, relying on his natural speed. After realizing its limits, he seeks out Nen abilities but fails to use them effectively due to his impatience and lack of foresight. His first ability, Tag, conjures an alternate reality where he and a target must play a game of tag with an eight-hour time limit. However, the ability is flawed, as it becomes a battle of patience rather than speed, which he lacks. When he loses, the ability's condition makes it unusable forever. He later creates a new ability, conjuring a crossbow and claws, but the projectiles are far slower than he is and easily countered. Rather than learning from these failures, he simply returns to Shaiapouf for another ability, treating complex Nen techniques as disposable toys. This stagnant development culminates in his abrupt and unceremonious death, having never grown in wisdom or strategy.
Cheetu's notable abilities center on his immense physical speed and reflexes, which are among the highest in the series. He can dodge bullets after they have already touched his skin, move faster than trained Hunters can react, and run for extended periods without tiring. As a Chimera Ant Squadron Leader, he possesses superhuman strength, able to dismember humans with ease. As a Nen user, he is classified as a Conjurer. Unlike some Ants who learn Nen instinctively, Cheetu requires the assistance of Shaiapouf to develop his Hatsu techniques. His primary Nen ability is called Tag. Upon touching an opponent, he transports both of them to a conjured, isolated space resembling a savannah, where a giant hourglass counts down from eight hours. To escape, the opponent must touch Cheetu, while he must avoid them. The ability is governed by a strict condition: if he is touched, he can never use Tag again. His secondary ability conjures a small crossbow with clawed projectiles, but its slow speed makes it largely ineffective against skilled opponents.
