TV-Series
Description
Nelson Andrews is a child actor and a Number holder in the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal. He has silver hair with long bangs swept to the left, lime-green eyes, and fair skin. He tends to wear the same outfit as his television character. In the English version he is known as Nelson Andrews, while in the Japanese version his name is Fuya Okudaira.
In the story, Nelson plays the role of Sparrow, also referred to as Esper Robin, on a television program called The Sparrow, which is known as D.D. Esper Robin in the original Japanese version. His character in the show is a heroic duelist, and Nelson becomes deeply immersed in that persona. He is intrigued by Astral, the mysterious being from another dimension, and this fascination drives much of his early interaction with the main characters.
Nelson is a talented duelist who uses a Sparrow Family Deck, a strategy built around the characters from his television series. The deck is capable of rapidly swarming the field and summoning his signature monster, Esper Star Sparrow, which is based on the character he himself plays. He also possesses a Number card, Number 83: Galaxy Queen, which he uses in his duels.
His role in the series begins when Yuma Tsukumo and his friends encounter him while he is rehearsing lines for an upcoming filming in Heartland City. During this meeting, Nelson becomes possessed by a Number card, leading to a duel with Yuma. The possession causes him to act in a more aggressive and obsessive manner, pushing him to prove his skills as a duelist. Yuma ultimately defeats him and frees him from the Number's influence, after which Nelson returns to his normal, friendly self.
Nelson's personality is marked by a strong attachment to his on-screen hero identity. He is enthusiastic and eager to embody the role of Sparrow, sometimes blurring the line between acting and reality. This makes him vulnerable to the Number's corruption, as his desire to be a true hero can be twisted into arrogance. After his defeat, he shows growth by learning to separate his acting career from his real-life relationships and ambitions.
His key relationship is with Yuma, who serves as both a rival and a friend. Their duel helps Nelson overcome his possession and reinforces the importance of genuine connection over performance. Nelson also interacts with other Number holders and the broader cast, but his arc remains centered on his dual life as an actor and a duelist.
Notable abilities include his proficiency with the Sparrow Family archetype, his skill in swarming the field with multiple monsters, and his use of Number 83: Galaxy Queen to control the flow of the duel. His deck often relies on the card Mausoleum of the Emperor for special summons, and he employs trap cards such as Storming Mirror Force for defense.
