Description
Barnaby Brooks Jr., often nicknamed Bunny by his partner, is a central character known for his striking appearance and complex personality. Standing at 185 cm tall, with blond hair and green eyes, he presents a cool and handsome image that makes him highly popular with the public. As a rookie hero affiliated with APOLLON MEDIA, he is unique in that he operates under his real name rather than a pseudonym, a choice deeply connected to his past.

Barnaby’s background is marked by a profound tragedy. When he was only four years old, his parents, who were robotics engineers, were assassinated. The trauma of witnessing their murder, with the only clue being a mysterious Ouroboros symbol, hardened his heart and set him on a path of revenge. He was taken in by Albert Maverick, a powerful media mogul and family friend, but the desire to track down the killer consumed his entire life, leading him to become a hero and purposely expose his real identity as a declaration of war against the criminal syndicate he holds responsible.

Initially, Barnaby’s personality is the antithesis of a traditional, warm-hearted hero. He is logical, calculating, and relies on strategy rather than brute force. His primary motivations for being a hero are not purely altruistic; he is deeply focused on earning points in the Hero TV ranking system and satisfying his sponsors, viewing heroism as a professional career first and foremost. His outward demeanor is often stoic, arrogant, and self-serving, as he is accustomed to the best things in life and can be unapproachable. His famous座右铭 about being flashy and his focus on work overshadow any initial concern for public sentiment or collateral damage.

Despite his cold exterior, Barnaby is not completely emotionless, and his role in the story is largely defined by his partnership with the veteran hero Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, also known as Wild Tiger. Forced to work together as the first hero team, their conflicting ideologies—Barnaby’s logic versus Kotetsu’s instinct—create constant friction. Kotetsu gives Barnaby the nickname Bunny, a reference to his armor’s long, ear-like protrusions and his energetic fighting style, a moniker Barnaby initially despises. This partnership becomes the catalyst for his character development. Through Kotetsu’s persistent and earnest nature, Barnaby slowly learns to trust another person and begins to open up, eventually dropping his cold "ojii-san" (old man) address for Kotetsu’s name and accepting the nickname.

The central mystery of Barnaby’s quest drives a significant portion of the narrative. He initially believes a criminal named Jake Martinez is his parents’ killer, but after the villain’s defeat, new evidence reveals the truth is far more devastating. He discovers that the real murderer is Albert Maverick, his trusted mentor, who used his own NEXT ability to repeatedly manipulate and erase Barnaby’s memories. This revelation causes a severe mental breakdown, as his entire life’s purpose is called into question. His key relationships are thus not only with Kotetsu but also with his surrogate father figure Maverick, whose betrayal is the ultimate test of his character. Another important relationship is with his childhood nanny, Samantha, who represents a genuine, uncorrupted connection to his past.

Barnaby’s development is a journey from a solitary, revenge-driven individual to a more open and caring person. After overcoming Maverick’s brainwashing and defeating him, Barnaby decides to retire from heroics, feeling his career was built on a lie. However, a year later, when Kotetsu returns to action with greatly diminished powers, Barnaby chooses to come back not for revenge or points, but to assist his partner, solidifying his growth from a loner to a dependable friend.

In terms of notable abilities, Barnaby is a NEXT, a person with extraordinary talents. His specific power is called Hundred Power, which allows him to increase all of his physical capabilities—strength, speed, and endurance—by a factor of one hundred for a duration of five minutes. After this time limit expires, he must wait an hour before he can use it again. To compensate for this limitation, he is a highly skilled tactical fighter who prefers precise kicks over wasteful brawling. His hero suit further enhances his natural abilities, providing increased durability and flight capabilities via jet boosters, and features a mode called Good Luck Mode that augments his kicking attacks.
