Description
Hilda, whose full name is Hildegarde, is a demon who serves as the adoptive mother and wet nurse to the infant demon lord Beelzebub IV. She is a young woman with glossy blonde hair, typically tied in a bun with a portion covering the left side of her face, and forest green eyes. Her wardrobe primarily consists of elegant black clothing with frills and white quillings, a style that strongly resembles gothic lolita fashion. She normally keeps her left eye covered, not because it is weak, but because its vision is ten times sharper than a normal eye, and using both eyes simultaneously causes her nausea.

Hilda is characterized by a typically cold and impassive demeanor, which is broken only on rare occasions, most notably in her interactions with Baby Beel. Towards Beel, she is exceedingly affectionate and protective, dutifully performing maternal tasks such as cooking and bathing for him. She views her role as his mother as the very reason for her existence. Outside of this, she displays a bloodthirsty and violent nature that rivals the series' protagonist, Tatsumi Oga, a trait that earns her the nickname Oga's Bride at Ishiyama High School. In combat, she is completely confident in her abilities, calmly regarding her opponents and often taunting them.

Hilda has a fondness for extremely spicy foods, such as super spicy habanero buns. She frequently enjoys teasing and tormenting Oga, making snide remarks about his intelligence and what she perceives as his poor parenting skills. Initially, she is openly disapproving of Oga as Beel's parental figure. However, after Oga defeats the powerful delinquent Hidetora Tojo, her attitude shifts significantly, becoming more accepting and warmer towards him, even expressing gratitude. Although they continue to bicker, her time with Oga and Beel gradually changes her, a fact noticed by other demons from her world who wonder what kind of human could be responsible.

Her primary motivation and duty are to follow the command of the Demon King to raise his son, Beelzebub, to be a proper demon who will destroy humanity. However, because Beel becomes strongly attached to Oga, Hilda's role evolves into observing and supporting the pair as they form an unconventional family, ensuring Beel's development and safety. Her relationship with Oga is central to the story. At first strictly pragmatic and adversarial, it develops into a partnership built on mutual acknowledgment of strength, though she still enjoys manipulating situations and people to achieve her desired outcomes.

A significant development occurs when Hilda suffers from amnesia. In this state, her personality becomes much more innocent and kind. She loses her animosity towards Oga, referring to him by his first name and blushing around him, hinting at burgeoning romantic feelings she normally represses. She also shows Beel even more affection, calling him Beelze. This innocent personality, which implies her repressed emotions, vanishes when Beel kisses her to restore her memories, though it can unexpectedly resurface under similar circumstances. She also has a sister named Yolda, who is also a wet nurse, and the two have a long-standing rivalry that hides deeper familial bonds.

In terms of abilities, Hilda is a highly skilled combatant. Her signature weapon is a thin sword concealed within the handle of a parasol, which fits her Victorian-era aesthetic. She rarely draws the blade, especially against weaker opponents, preferring to fight with the sheathed parasol or using her immense physical strength. She is capable of easily dispatching multiple enemies, including other demons, in the blink of an eye. Hilda can also manipulate her demonic aura, manifesting it as black filaments of energy for destructive attacks or for more delicate tasks like grabbing distant objects. Her physical prowess is exceptional, granting her superhuman strength, speed, and durability, such as when she continued to fight after being impaled or when she punched an enemy through multiple floors of a building. Even for a demon, she is considered remarkably powerful, especially for a non-contracted servant.
