Description
Kazuma Ikezawa is a thirteen-year-old boy who plays a crucial role in the events of the anime Summer Wars. He is a first-year middle school student and a distant cousin of Natsuki Shinohara, visiting the rural Jinnouchi family estate for the great-grandmother's birthday celebration. Physically, Kazuma is depicted with short black hair, often with bangs covering one eye, and he typically dresses casually in tank tops and shorts, usually seen barefoot and wearing headphones around his neck.

On the surface, Kazuma presents a cool, reserved, and somewhat antisocial demeanor. He prefers to isolate himself in a back room of the large house, spending nearly all his time focused on his laptop rather than interacting with the bustle of his extended family. This detachment is typical of a teenager in a rebellious phase, but it masks a deeply kind and passionate nature. Beneath his quiet exterior lies a strong competitive spirit and a fierce sense of pride, particularly regarding his abilities in the virtual world. His personality is a product of his past; he was bullied as a child for being quiet and introverted, a difficult period that shaped his desire for strength and victory.

Kazuma's primary motivation stems from a need for confidence and self-worth, which he found not in the physical world but online. He is the creator and operator of King Kazma, a famous and powerful rabbit-like avatar in the massive virtual world OZ. Contrary to his reserved real-life persona, through King Kazma, he is a world champion fighter with multiple corporate sponsors, recognized as one of OZ's strongest and most popular avatars. He has stated that his drive does not come from enjoying the game itself, but from the feeling of winning and the validation it provides.

His key relationships are central to his character. He shares a close bond with his maternal grandfather, Mansuke Jinnouchi, whom he calls master. It was through OZ that Mansuke taught Kazuma the techniques of Shaolin Temple boxing, giving him the martial arts foundation that he then perfected as King Kazma, and this training helped him overcome his childhood trauma. Initially dismissive of the protagonist Kenji Koiso, Kazuma becomes deeply interested when he discovers Kenji's genius-level mathematical ability, beginning to see him as a valuable ally and earning his respect. His role in the story evolves when a malicious artificial intelligence called Love Machine seizes control of OZ. As King Kazma, he is one of the first and most formidable lines of defense, engaging the AI in a high-stakes battle to save the virtual world from collapse.

Throughout the crisis, Kazuma undergoes significant development. He starts as a solitary figure focused on his own pride but is forced to confront the limits of individual strength. He suffers a crushing defeat by Love Machine, a humbling experience that brings him to tears and shatters his confidence. This loss, combined with the death of the family matriarch, pushes him to collaborate more openly with others. Despite a moment of explosive anger when his plan is sabotaged, he ultimately channels his combat skills into a final, coordinated team effort. In the climax, he uses King Kazma to land the decisive blow that destroys Love Machine, solidifying his transition from a lone champion to a reliable member of his family and a hero.

Kazumas notable abilities are twofold. In the real world, he is a skilled practitioner of Shaolin Temple boxing, a discipline that instills both physical and mental control. In the virtual world of OZ, these skills translate directly into the phenomenal fighting prowess of his avatar, King Kazma. King Kazma is exceptionally agile, capable of high-speed movement, powerful kicks, and swift, precise strikes that can break through steel armor. He has complete mastery over his avatars movements, allowing him to evade attacks and defeat opponents many times his size.
