Description
Maxey Whitehead is an American voice actress known for her work in English-language dubs of Japanese anime series and films, primarily for Funimation Entertainment. Born on June 15, 1981, she began her career in stage acting before transitioning to voice work. Her entry into the industry came when a friend invited her to an audition for the series Romeo x Juliet; she successfully auditioned and landed the role of Antonio. This opportunity launched her career in anime dubbing, where she became recognized for her ability to voice a wide range of characters, particularly young boys and young girls.
Whitehead has built an extensive filmography, taking on both leading and supporting roles across numerous popular series. She is known for voicing Ellis in El Cazador de la Bruja, Tsukimi Kurashita in Princess Jellyfish, and Sealand in Hetalia: Axis Powers. In the feature film A Certain Magical Index: The Miracle of Endymion, she provided the voice for Ladylee Tangleroad. Her repertoire also includes younger versions of established characters, such as a young Rin Matsuoka in the Free! franchise and Katsuma Shimano in My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising. In the Tokyo Ghoul series, she voiced the character Juzo Suzuya.
One of her most prominent and critically noted roles is that of Alphonse Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and its accompanying film, The Sacred Star of Milos. She took over the role from the original English voice actor, Aaron Dismuke, whose voice had changed as he grew older. Among her many characters, Whitehead has stated that her personal favorite to voice has been Crona from the series Soul Eater. Her performance as the lead character Tsukimi Kurashita in Princess Jellyfish was praised for capturing the character's sincere, wistful nature and her intense passion for jellyfish, effectively conveying both her yearning and her determined "otaku mode". Whitehead's career demonstrates a consistent and versatile presence in the anime dubbing industry through the 2010s and up to 2020.
