TV-Series
Description
Hideki Ide is a police officer affiliated with the National Police Agency who becomes a member of the Japanese Task Force formed to apprehend the serial killer known as Kira. In the first part of the story, he is 34 to 35 years old, and he is 40 to 42 years old in the second part. He is physically described as being 170 centimeters tall and weighing 62 kilograms.

Ide has a notably short temper and expresses visible frustration, particularly towards what he perceives as foolishness from his colleagues. He is a serious, responsible, and diligent detective who also harbors a love for literature and a dislike for variety television programs. A distinctive aspect of his personality is his profound distrust of individuals he cannot see, which is the primary reason for his initial refusal to work directly with the world-renowned detective L, who communicates only through a screen and a synthesized voice. Despite his dedication to arresting Kira, Ide possesses a complex inner conflict, as he admits to a degree of understanding or sympathy for Kira's goal of eliminating evil from the world. He is also depicted as being remarkably oblivious in romantic matters, a trait that becomes a source of humor among the task force.

Ide's role in the story is defined by his initial departure from and eventual return to the official investigation. When the task force decides to submit entirely to L's unconventional methods, Ide chooses to leave the team, unwilling to stake his life on a leader who hides his identity. However, his departure does not mark the end of his involvement. Ide secretly assembles his own trusted team of officers and continues an independent investigation into Kira. His most significant contribution during this period comes during the investigation of the Yotsuba Group, where the new Kira, Higuchi, gains the ability to kill anyone whose face he sees, known as the Shinigami Eyes. Defying direct orders to stay away, Ide and his friend Shuichi Aizawa execute a tactical operation, using police vehicles with tinted windows and protective helmets to block Higuchi's escape route and force his capture.

Ide shares his strongest bond with Aizawa, who is not only his colleague but also his closest friend and a member of the same police class. Their deep trust in each other is the foundation for their decision to leave the official team together and conduct their own parallel investigation. After the death of L, Ide officially rejoins the task force, now led by Light Yagami, who has assumed L's identity. During this later phase, he develops a comedic yet effective working partnership with the more impulsive officer Touta Matsuda. Their dynamic, characterized by Ide's exasperated outbursts at Matsuda's behavior, lightens the atmosphere of the otherwise grim investigation. As suspicions grow that Light Yagami might be Kira, Ide begins to harbor his own private doubts about their leader, though he remains less openly confrontational than Aizawa. At the same time, he maintains a strong distrust of L's successor, Near, and reacts with anger during incidents that put the lives of his fellow officers at risk. In the aftermath of the Kira case, Ide remains convinced that ending Kira's reign was the correct course of action, believing that any alternative would have resulted in the deaths of all who opposed him.
