Description
Kittan Bachika is a prominent supporting character who first appears as the leader of a small group of Beastman hunters known as the Black Siblings, consisting of himself and his three younger sisters, Kiyoh, Kinon, and Kiyal. He is a tall, well-built man with a wild shock of spiky blonde hair. His initial outfit is a black, sleeveless shirt with matching pants, but after a seven-year time skip, his wardrobe shifts to a darker blue ensemble accented with red and gold details.
Personality-wise, Kittan is initially characterized by a brash, egotistical, and hot-blooded nature that draws immediate comparisons to Kamina, the series' original driving force. He is fiercely competitive and prone to impulsive actions, yet this bravado masks a deep-seated desire to prove his worth and protect those close to him. After Kamina's death, Kittan briefly and self-proclaimedly assumes the role of the team's leader, though no one else agrees with this succession. Over time, he matures significantly, becoming more collected and thoughtful while learning to set aside his ego. He ultimately recognizes Simon's rightful place as the true leader of Team Dai-Gurren, growing to respect him immensely. Beneath his rough exterior, Kittan is brave, noble, and willing to make any sacrifice for his friends, and he has a notable soft spot for children, including his young niece.
Kittan's role in the story evolves from a secondary rival to a core pillar of Team Dai-Gurren. Initially clashing with Kamina, he is inspired by the latter's example to steal his own Gunman, which he renames King Kittan. He gathers other like-minded hijackers and joins forces with Kamina's group, helping to form the larger fighting force known as Team Dai-Gurren. Following the seven-year time skip, Kittan becomes the Chief of the Legal Affairs Bureau in the newly established Kamina City. He resigns this position in disgust upon discovering Rossiu's plan to abandon the majority of humanity, defying orders to return the Core Drill to Simon and rejoin the fight against the Anti-Spiral.
His key relationships define much of his arc. His friendly rivalry with Kamina pushes him to be a better fighter, and his grief after Kamina's death forces him to find his own path. His relationship with Simon shifts from seeing him as a rival to viewing him as a respected commander. He also develops romantic feelings for the sniper Yoko Littner, which culminate in a poignant farewell kiss before his final battle. As the eldest brother, he is fiercely protective of his three sisters, Kiyoh, Kinon, and Kiyal, often acting as their gruff but caring guardian.
Kittan undergoes a significant character development, transitioning from a self-centered glory-seeker to a selfless hero. His defining moment is a heroic sacrifice. When Team Dai-Gurren is trapped by the Death Spiral Machine, a weapon generating an inescapable ultra-dense space sea, Kittan volunteers for a suicide mission. Despite the mission having a calculated zero percent chance of success, he harnesses his own latent Spiral Power. Fusing a broken drill from Gurren Lagann to his own mech, he charges into the machine's core, unleashing his own variation of the Giga Drill Break to destroy it, knowing the resulting explosion will claim his life.
In terms of notable abilities, Kittan is a skilled warrior and a masterful Gunman pilot. He is proficient with a slingshot that fires volatile explosives known as Burning Water, as well as a shotgun loaded with specialized Spiral Shells. His true power lies in his ability to generate Spiral Power, a force fueled by fighting spirit that allows for evolution and impossible feats. Before his death, his awakened Spiral Power is said to be potent enough to shake an entire galaxy. As a pilot, he demonstrates incredible tactical foresight, using his Gunman King Kittan to its fullest potential. This includes techniques like the Kittan Stinger, where the mecha rams an opponent with its head, followed by the Hell's Headsplitter, which cleaves the enemy apart. In his final moments, he performs the King Kittan Giga Drill Break, creating a drill twice the size of the standard Giga Drill to annihilate the Death Spiral Machine, permanently cementing his legacy as a hero of humanity.
