Description
Belfangan Clouseau is a Canadian mercenary and a member of the private military organization Mithril, where he holds the rank of Lieutenant and later Lieutenant Commander. He serves as the leader of the Special Response Team, operating under the call sign Urzu 1. Clouseau is assigned to this position following the death of the previous team leader, Gail McAllen, and originally was part of Mithril's Mediterranean Sea Fleet.

Clouseau is a composed and intensely serious professional soldier who carries himself with a strict, no-nonsense demeanor. He is a highly disciplined individual with a profound respect for martial values and military protocol. This outward persona, however, conceals a surprising personal interest: Clouseau is a dedicated anime and animation enthusiast, enjoying works ranging from Disney to Studio Ghibli. He goes to great lengths to keep this hobby a secret from his subordinates, fearing it would undermine his authority and damage team morale.

His primary motivation is to ensure the operational effectiveness of his team and to counter the growing threat posed by enemy Arm Slaves equipped with the Lambda Driver. Clouseau is introduced in The Second Raid through an unorthodox method designed to assess the skills and mental states of his new subordinates, Sousuke Sagara and Kurz Weber. He deliberately insults their deceased former commander, McAllen, who was in fact a close friend of his from past missions. This calculated provocation allows him to gauge their reactions and loyalty. This action, along with his pre-existing friendship with Sergeant Melissa Mao, establishes his pragmatic and strategic approach to leadership.

Throughout the story, Clouseau acts as a crucial mentor and evaluator for Sousuke Sagara. Recognizing that Sousuke's performance in the ARX-7 Arbalest is hampered by his deep-seated hatred for the unreliable Lambda Driver system, Clouseau challenges him to a duel. He decisively defeats Sousuke, not through the use of a special system, but through superior skill and philosophy. Clouseau fights as if his Arm Slave is a natural extension of his own body, a principle he imparts to Sousuke to help him overcome his psychological block. His relationship with Kurz Weber is more adversarial, marked by a mutual but grudging respect that is frequently tested by Weber's playful exploitation of Clouseau's secret otaku lifestyle, such as by hiding his prized DVD collection.

Clouseau possesses exceptional abilities both on and off the battlefield. He is an expert martial artist, capable of incapacitating a trained soldier like Kurz Weber with a single, effortless move. This physical prowess translates directly into his Arm Slave piloting. He commands a custom M9D Falke unit, and his close-quarters combat technique is unparalleled among his peers, incorporating elements of various martial arts. His skill is so refined that Sousuke initially mistakes it for the work of a Lambda Driver. Clouseau proves his mastery by demonstrating that a conventional Arm Slave, when piloted with perfect harmony, can effectively challenge and even overcome technologically superior enemies.
