Description
Beet is the protagonist of his story, a young boy who dreams of becoming the strongest Vandel Buster. His life was forever changed by an encounter with the Zenon Warriors, the legendary Buster team he idolized. Unknown to him at the time, the leader of this group, Zenon, was actually his older brother. Zenon had wanted Beet to live a peaceful life away from the dangers of a Buster's path. During a catastrophic battle against Beltorze, a powerful Vandel known as the King of Tragedy, Beet rushed to the scene to cheer on his heroes. Beltorze captured and mortally wounded Beet. Seeing this, the distracted Zenon Warriors were hit by Beltorze’s most devastating attack, leaving them all critically injured. To save Beet’s life, the Zenon Warriors made the ultimate sacrifice, sealing their souls into their Saiga, the divine weapons that are the source of a Buster's power, and giving them to Beet. As they left to face Beltorze one last time without their powers, Beet vowed to end the Dark Century and become the strongest Buster of all.
In terms of personality, Beet is defined by a strong sense of justice and a remarkably good heart. He openly admits to not being particularly intelligent, but this does not hinder his resolve. He is a reckless prodigy in battle, relying on his inherited Saiga, his unwavering will, his friends, and a fair amount of luck to overcome powerful Vandels and monsters. Beet becomes angry when he encounters other Busters who are corrupt or treat the profession merely as a job, as he believes a true Buster must protect others at all times. True to his ideals, he loves helping people and never asks for money in return, surviving on official Buster reward money and often camping in the wilderness where he eats free bugs, much to the dismay of his companions.
Beet’s primary motivation is the solemn promise he made to his dying heroes: to destroy all Vandels and bring an end to the Dark Century. This goal drives him to push past his limits and face incredibly dangerous foes. His role in the story is that of the leader and heart of the Beet Warriors, the team he founds to carry out his mission. He is the central figure around which the battle against the Vandels revolves, to the point that a bounty is placed on his head after he manages to kill the powerful Vandel Grineed.
His key relationships are central to his character. His bond with his brother Zenon is the most tragic and defining, as Zenon’s sacrifice fuels Beet’s entire quest. He is a childhood friend of Poala, a tough and reasonable girl who acts as the brains of the Beet Warriors; Beet has a one-sided childhood promise that he will marry her one day. His best friend and partner is Kissu, a genius master of Divine Power who struggles with self-confidence. Beet’s unwavering friendship is instrumental in bringing Kissu back from the influence of a Vandel and into the Beet Warriors.
Over the course of his journey, Beet shows significant development. He grows from a guilt-ridden boy into a determined leader, learning to handle the immense gift of five Saiga. His early reliance on sheer recklessness and luck gradually becomes more tempered by tactical experience, though his core personality remains unchanged. A major milestone in his development is awakening his own unique Saiga, the Excellion beBlade, which allows him to use the abilities of all five Zenon Warriors’ Saiga from a single weapon.
Beet possesses several notable and unique abilities. Most Busters rely on Divine Power, but Beet has almost no aptitude for it; when he tries to use fire, it bursts out wildly and uncontrollably. Instead, his strength lies in his mastery of Saiga. He is the only known Buster to have inherited a Saiga, and he carries five of them from the Zenon Warriors: the Burning Lance, the Cyclone Gunner, the Crown Shield, the Boltic Axe, and the Excellion Blade. Another defining trait is his bizarre sleep schedule; he has the ability to stay awake and active for three full days, after which he falls into a deep, near-comatose sleep for an entire day to recover.
