Description
Akira Kaburagi Regendorf is the male protagonist of the narrative and a young werewolf who serves as the personal guardian to Mina Tepes, the queen of all vampires. He is a member of the Earth Clan, a lineage of werewolves sworn to protect the Tepes vampire family, and is the son of Wolfgang Regendorf. His full name is sometimes rendered as Akira Kaburagi Regendorf. He is known by other titles as well, including the Wolf King and Fenrir in the manga.

Regarding his background, Akira swore an oath of loyalty to Mina when they were both children, and this promise forms the foundation of his adult life and duties. At the beginning of the anime storyline, Akira suffers from amnesia, having lost all memories of the past year. He is initially unaware that he is a werewolf, a fact revealed to him early in the story. It is later explained that he lost his memories due to the trauma of a failed mission, and he was allowed to live because of his profound importance to Mina. In the manga, the circumstances of his introduction to Mina differ slightly, as he was brought before her by his father at the age of seventeen.

Akira is characterized as a fundamentally kind and determined individual. His primary motivation is the protection of Mina Tepes, with whom he is deeply in love. This devotion defines his role in the story as her most intimate bodyguard and a central figure in the political and physical struggles surrounding the establishment of the vampire bund. His fierce loyalty to Mina is a core aspect of his personality and serves as a key driver of the plot, often placing him in direct conflict with threats from both humans and other vampires. He is revered by younger members of the Earth Clan for his accomplishments but is also despised by rogues who oppose Mina.

His key relationships are centered on Mina Tepes, to whom he is bound by both duty and affection. He also shares a close friendship with Yuki Saegusa, a human classmate and amateur novelist who was once his girlfriend in the anime adaptation. Yuki is a close friend of both Akira and Mina and often serves as a neutral and compassionate observer who helps bridge the gap between their two worlds. Akira's father, Wolfgang Regendorf, is also a significant figure, as he is responsible for Akira's rigorous training.

Throughout the story, Akira undergoes notable development. His journey primarily involves recovering his lost memories and coming to terms with his true identity as a werewolf. He starts as a human boy unaware of his supernatural nature and gradually embraces his heritage and the responsibilities that come with it. This process of self-discovery is intertwined with his evolving relationship with Mina and his acceptance of his role as her protector.

Akira possesses a number of notable abilities stemming from his werewolf heritage. He is highly trained, particularly in using his canine senses to identify almost all types of explosives by scent, though he cannot disarm them as he only completed the canine portion of the program. Even in his human form, he has a greatly enhanced sense of smell and the ability to detect when someone is lying. As a werewolf, he has the power to transform at will into a more powerful, anthropomorphic wolf-like creature or into a smaller, quicker complete wolf. This transformation grants him immense strength, speed, stamina, and agility far beyond those of ordinary humans or wolves. When he begins to transform, his eyes turn yellow, and the process is extremely rapid. While transformed, some wolf instinct may influence his mind, though he retains a human level of awareness. His werewolf form is characterized by distinctive white fur around his neck that drapes like a scarf.
