Description
Buffaloman is a charging bull-themed Chojin, or superhuman, and one of the most formidable figures in his world, originally introduced as a primary antagonist. He is a member of the Seven Devil Chojin, a group of powerful and brutal warriors who were banished to the ends of the universe for their ruthlessness. His physical appearance is imposing and directly reflects his bovine theme; he has a large, muscular frame, curly brown hair, pure white eyes, and spikes on each knee. His most distinctive features are the two large, curved horns called Long Horns that grow from his head.
Buffaloman’s background is marked by tragedy and immense power. He is the sole survivor of the Buffalo Clan, which destroyed itself through years of infighting over the right to be king. This history of loss contributes to his solemn and powerful demeanor. His physical strength is so great that the concept of Chojin Power was introduced specifically to illustrate his might, starting with a rating of 10 million units—ten times that of Kinnikuman's previous greatest opponent. While other, more powerful characters eventually appear, Buffaloman’s raw power remains a distinct and central advantage in his fights.
Despite his origins as a Devil Chojin, Buffaloman possesses a strong sense of honor and respect for his opponents. He typically fights in a straightforward, brutal manner, relying on his immense strength, but he is also clever and capable of luring opponents into wasting their stamina. In certain situations, he can even lower his power output to increase his speed. His fighting style revolves around using his body as a weapon, with many techniques named after bulls and buffaloes, such as the Buffalo Hammer and the Hurricane Mixer. His horns are central to his offense, used for piercing and executing various powerful maneuvers.
Buffaloman's narrative arc is one of redemption. He begins as a villain who steals parts of Meat, Kinnikuman’s friend, to force a fight. However, during his intense battle with Kinnikuman, the respect shown to him awakens a good heart within Buffaloman. In a pivotal moment, he betrays his master, Satan, by revealing the key to saving Meat’s life, effectively renouncing his evil ways. He is then killed by Satan’s punishment but is subsequently revived as a Justice Chojin, becoming a hero and a steadfast ally.
This transformation cements his most important relationship: the deep friendship and mutual respect he shares with Kinnikuman. This bond is exemplified when Buffaloman allows Doctor Bombe to use his own Long Horns as replacement bones for Kinnikuman's shattered arm, an act of profound sacrifice. He also shares a close bond with Springman, a fellow Devil Chojin who often teams with him as the tag team Diabolos. Their teamwork is so synchronized that they have several combination attacks, such as the Longhorn Train and the Spring Bazooka. In the sequel series, Kinnikuman Nisei, Buffaloman takes on the role of a strict but respected teacher at the Hercules Academy, guiding a new generation of Chojin.
Over the course of his story, Buffaloman undergoes significant development. After his death and resurrection as a hero, his redemption is later tested when he returns to his Devil Chojin ways in the Kinnikuman 2011 revival series. However, even then, he retains his honorable side and does not harbor hatred for his former Justice Chojin allies. He continues to fight for what he believes is right, demonstrating that his core values of honor and respect, learned from Kinnikuman, are an indelible part of him. His journey is a classic tale of a villain redeemed by the power of friendship and honor, becoming one of the most powerful and respected champions of justice.
