Description
Matsu is a central character in the anime Sekirei: Pure Engagement, designated as Sekirei number two. She is a computer genius and a skilled hacker who uses a vast network of satellites and spying devices to gather intelligence, successfully infiltrating the mainframe of the powerful MBI corporation. Because of this, she is wanted by MBI and lives in a secret room within the Izumo Inn, where she is initially mistaken for a ghost by another resident. Her name means pine in Japanese.
Matsu functions as the unofficial strategist for her Ashikabi, Minato Sahashi, whom she joins as his third Sekirei. She rarely leaves the inn, preferring to operate from her hidden base where she monitors events across Teito City. Her abilities extend to accessing and analyzing any electronic device on a telepathic level, though she cannot control them. In later developments, she can also synchronize telepathically with other Sekirei to share information. Her analytical mind and vast knowledge make her a vital intelligence asset for Minato’s group.
Despite her intellect and the self proclaimed title of Wisdom Sekirei, Matsu has a notably mischievous and perverse side. She often uses her surveillance resources to spy on others, particularly Minato, and frequently attempts hands on experimentation with him. This behavior leads many to call her the Shameless Sekirei, and the inn’s landlady nicknames her Hentai Glasses. Matsu has a quirky habit of shortening people’s names and replacing san with tan. While she enjoys teasing and provoking those around her, she is deeply loyal to Minato and her fellow Sekirei.
Matsu was once a member of the first generation Disciplinary Squad, a group of powerful Sekirei tasked with enforcing the rules of the Sekirei Plan. At some point, she stole a Jinki, a key artifact, from Yume, another Sekirei. This theft is the reason MBI pursues her. Her own Jinki, numbered two, later becomes a prize in the second match of stage three of the competition. Through her interactions with Minato and the other residents of the Izumo Inn, Matsu gradually opens up more emotionally, though she maintains her playful and intellectually dominant persona. Her primary motivation is to protect Minato and help him survive the Sekirei Plan, all while indulging her curiosity and love for information gathering.
