Description
Benitsubasa, known as the Red Sekirei, is Sekirei Number 105 and a prominent member of the MBI Disciplinary Squad in the second season of the anime. Her name translates to crimson wings, a reference to both her red-themed epithet and her fiery temperament. Physically, she is depicted with pink hair tied in a side ponytail secured by two daisy-shaped hair clips and typically wears a short, kimono-like shirt that is missing one sleeve. Her listed physical statistics include a height of 159 centimeters and a weight of 44 kilograms.

As a member of the third Disciplinary Squad, a unit of powerful Sekirei tasked with enforcing the rules of the Sekirei Project, Benitsubasa is characterized as the most aggressive and hotheaded of the group. Her personality is marked by a short temper, a tendency to act impulsively, and a visible disdain for what she perceives as foolishness in others. In combat, she often displays a distinctive habit of sticking out her tongue, which reinforces her pugnacious and somewhat brash demeanor.

Benitsubasa's primary motivation throughout Sekirei: Pure Engagement is driven by a powerful grudge. She harbors an intense and focused hatred for the Sekirei Musubi, stemming from a past confrontation where she was overwhelmingly defeated and nearly thrown beyond the project's border. Unbeknownst to her, the decisive blow in that fight was actually delivered by Yume, another personality residing within Musubi, but Benitsubasa incorrectly attributes the humiliation and defeat solely to Musubi. This misunderstanding fuels her singular goal of finding Musubi during the third stage of the Sekirei Plan to settle their unfinished fight and exact revenge.

Her role in the story is primarily that of an antagonist who actively seeks out the protagonist Minato and his Sekirei. In her quest to confront Musubi, she demonstrates a willingness to bend or break the project's established rules. Despite regulations forbidding attacks on Ashikabi, the human partners who can wing Sekirei, Benitsubasa directly attacks Minato, rationalizing that eliminating him would be a practical solution to draw out or weaken his Sekirei. This aggressive pursuit leads to a significant confrontation where she and her fellow Disciplinary Squad member, Haihane, capture Minato to lure Musubi into a trap.

Key relationships define much of her character. Unlike her squad mates Haihane and Karasuba, Benitsubasa is notably devoted to her own Ashikabi, Natsuo Ichinomi. She is described as the only member of the three who genuinely loves her Ashikabi, expressing a desire for him to open his eyes and acknowledge her feelings. This possessive affection is taken to an extreme, as she privately wishes to eliminate her comrades Haihane and Karasuba so that she can have Natsuo all to herself. Her dynamic with Haihane is a combative but functional partnership, though the two often bicker, with Haihane frequently teasing her about her flat chest, a sensitive subject for Benitsubasa.

In terms of development, Benitsubasa remains a relatively static character driven by her vendetta, though her intense and straightforward nature serves as a direct obstacle that the main characters must overcome. Her arc in Pure Engagement culminates in a confrontation with Kazehana, a powerful Sekirei who had recently become winged by Minato. In this battle, Benitsubasa and Haihane are swiftly and decisively defeated by Kazehana's newly unleashed power, which forces them to retreat and temporarily halts their pursuit.

As a fighter, Benitsubasa specializes in powerful hand-to-hand combat, similar to Musubi, though it is stated they are complete opposites in style. She compensates for a lack of ranged weaponry by generating shockwaves and seismic impacts with her immense strength, allowing her to attack from a distance. Her known techniques include the Blade of Rage, Blood Festival, Pulverizer, and Gekishin, also known as Extreme Earthquake. These abilities reflect her aggressive, no-nonsense approach to battle, favoring overwhelming force over subtlety.
