Description
In the narrative of Sekirei: Pure Engagement, the character known as Homura, who also operates under the alias Kagari, is the Sekirei designated as Number 06. This character leads a double life to navigate the complexities of the Sekirei Plan. As Kagari, Homura works as a popular and charismatic host at a nightclub, a role taken on specifically to interact closely with many women in the hopes of finding the destined Ashikabi. Under the same person's true identity of Homura, a long black coat and mask are adopted to act as a self-proclaimed defender of other unwinged Sekirei, a mission given by a scientist named Takami Sahashi. This dual existence is a closely guarded secret known to only a few, such as Miya Asama and the Sekirei named Uzume.

The personality of Homura is generally calm, collected, and gentle, often serving as a composed contrast to the more boisterous members of Minato Sahashi's group. However, this calm exterior masks a deep-seated and volatile rage directed at Minaka, the director of the Mid Bio Informatics Corporation who orchestrates the Sekirei Plan. Homura harbors a powerful resentment towards Minaka for creating the Sekirei and manipulating their lives as part of a cruel game, and a primary motivation is to kill him to bring an end to the plan. This anger is a core part of Homura's identity, and even after being winged, this goal does not change. A notable and recurring character trait is a habit of smoking cigarettes when anxious, often lighting them with a flicker of personal fire power.

The central conflict for Homura in Pure Engagement revolves around a unique and unstable physical condition. Unlike other Sekirei, Homura's gender and powers are not fixed but begin to change upon reacting to a destined Ashikabi. The reaction starts towards Minato Sahashi after he comes to live at the Izumo Inn, causing Homura great distress and internal turmoil as the Ashikabi in question is a male. This reaction triggers a process referred to as feminization, where the body begins to take on more female characteristics, such as breast development, even as the character continues to think and act as a man. This physical instability is directly linked to fire powers, which become increasingly difficult to control and dangerous, threatening to consume Homura entirely if not stabilized by an Ashikabi. The key relationships are therefore fraught with this tension; while feeling a pull towards Minato, Homura is deeply uncomfortable with the implications of being winged by a man and tries to resist the attraction.

The role of Homura in the story of Pure Engagement is defined by being the last unwinged Sekirei in the city. This status triggers a major event when the MBI director announces the location, prompting a city-wide free-for-all as multiple Ashikabi and their Sekirei move to capture Homura. Refusing to become a trophy in the director's game, Homura leaves the safety of the Izumo Inn with the intention of confronting and killing Minaka directly, walking into an ambush orchestrated by Higa, one of the major Ashikabi. In a moment of desperation, unwilling to be captured, Homura attempts suicide through self-immolation. It is at this critical juncture that Minato and his Sekirei arrive. Despite Homura's unstable and dangerous state, Minato initiates the winging ceremony, kissing the Sekirei and bringing them under his protection, which successfully stabilizes Homura's powers and saves the life. Following this event, Homura becomes Minato's sixth and final Sekirei, joining the group at the Izumo Inn. While the physical transformation continues and the acceptance of a male Ashikabi remains a source of awkwardness, Homura's loyalty and protectiveness toward Minato become evident, and the character often acts as a calm and experienced advisor in battle situations.

Regarding notable abilities, Homura possesses the power of pyrokinesis, allowing for the creation, control, and manipulation of fire. This power is highly versatile and can be shaped into various forms, including a serpent-like form called Jaen, a dragon known as Enryu, or a sword of flame named Honoo no Tsurugi. Homura is considered exceptionally powerful, speculated by other high-numbered Sekirei like Tsukiumi to be the strongest unwinged Sekirei. The chant used to remove the crest of a defeated opponent is, "These are the flames of my pledge, burn the karma of my Ashikabi". Before being winged by Minato, a major weakness was a constant struggle to maintain control over these abilities due to the unstable nature of the body. After being winged, the power stabilizes, and Homura can also combine fire attacks with Tsukiumi's water-based powers to create devastating steam-based attacks like Joki Bakuryu. The character's development thus moves from a solitary, unstable figure on the verge of self-destruction to a stable, loyal, and powerful member of a group, even while continuing to grapple with a complex personal identity.
