TV-Series
Description
Kosuke Ueki is a thirteen year old student in Class 1-C at Hinokuni Junior High School. He is the main protagonist of the series. Unbeknownst to most of his peers, Ueki is a Celestial being sent to Earth as an infant by his biological father, Pag, to participate in a grand tournament that will determine the next King of the Celestial World. His supernatural ability to turn trash into trees was granted by his homeroom teacher and god candidate, Kobayashi, who is known as Mr. K.

Ueki's most defining personality trait is his unwavering sense of justice. He cannot stand by while others are oppressed, abused, or manipulated, and he acts instinctively to protect them. He is genuinely kind and extends his compassion not only to people but also to the environment, often picking up trash and planting trees around his town. Despite his strong morals, he is an unusually calm and somewhat simple minded individual. He is largely indifferent to his own safety, frequently napping in class and allowing children to use him as a target for soccer practice without complaint. This calm demeanor belies a deep determination and a strong work ethic; he firmly believes he can overcome any disadvantage through sheer effort.

Ueki's primary motivation throughout the story is to win the celestial tournament. His goal is not personal power or glory but to keep the Talent of Blank out of the hands of those who would abuse it. Later, his motivations expand to include rescuing god candidates like Mr. K, Inumaru, and Nero from being unjustly sent to Hell. In the sequel, he fights to restore the memories of everyone who lost their recollection of their most important person.

As the central protagonist, Ueki's role is that of a champion of justice, leading his team through numerous battles against increasingly powerful foes. His key relationships shape his journey. Kobayashi serves as his mentor and the source of his initial powers. His classmate Ai Mori is his closest confidante and supporter, who discovers his secret early on and stands by him, with the sequel implying deep romantic feelings between them. His relationship with Seiichiro Sano begins in rivalry but develops into a strong alliance and friendship. Even his enemies, such as Robert Haydn, are often the recipients of his kindness, as he once saved Robert from falling debris, reflecting his belief that justice applies to everyone.

Ueki experiences significant development over the course of the story. He begins as a naive user of a seemingly weak ability and grows into a tactical and powerful fighter. Upon discovering his true nature as a Celestial, he gains access to Sacred Weapons, and his unique constitution allows him to wield more than one at the same time. He consistently advances in strength and understanding, ultimately winning the tournament and being recognized as the strongest Celestial and Power User. His growth is defined by his ability to stay true to his ideals while becoming strong enough to defend them.

Ueki's most notable ability is transforming trash into trees. Unlike powers that are simple one way transformations, Ueki's ability creates a renewable cycle, as parts of the trees he creates can eventually become trash again, which he can then turn back into trees. His Level 2 power allows him to nullify an opponent's attack by reverting it back to its original form, a versatile defensive and offensive tool. As a Celestial, he can wield multiple Sacred Weapons, significantly expanding his combat arsenal. His power continues to evolve throughout the series, marking him as a uniquely talented combatant.
