TV-Series
Description
Akira Sukawara is a reporter whose role in the story of Zettai Shounen bridges its two main narrative arcs. Initially working for a local television station called 39 Cable TV, she is a driven and curious individual who shows great interest in the unexplained phenomena occurring in the rural town of Tana. Her personality is marked by a tenacious investigative spirit; she is attracted to local rumors, such as sightings of kappa, and is relentless in her pursuit of the truth behind them. This often leads her to question reluctant witnesses, including the young protagonist Ayumu Aizawa, whom she corners for information about the mysterious yellow lights appearing in the valley.

Her primary motivation throughout the series is to understand the nature of the mysterious flying objects that manifest as spheres of light. She does not merely observe these events but actively seeks to document, categorize, and explain them. In the second half of the story, which takes place a year and a half later in Yokohama, Sukawara has transitioned into a freelance reporter. She has written a book about the earlier incidents in Tana, which she titles Summer of the Fairies ~Material Fairy~, and continues her investigation with even greater purpose. Her goal is to prove the existence of these beings, which she terms "material fairies," showing her desire to build a factual and theoretical framework around the paranormal.

Sukawara plays a crucial role as an observer and a catalyst in the plot. In the first arc, she represents the outside world's curiosity and skepticism, investigating the strange events that disrupt the quiet life of Tana. In the second arc, her role expands significantly. She becomes a more central figure in Yokohama, connecting the new mysteries to her past research. Her key relationships evolve as well. While she initially interacts with Ayumu as an adult seeking answers from a reluctant boy, she later takes on a mentor-like role by recruiting a younger character named Makki to assist in her new investigation, giving him her card and enlisting his help. She also observes the actions of the new protagonist, Kisa Tanigawa, and provides a contrasting perspective by identifying Kisa's companion, Bun-chan, not as a fairy but as a "material evil".

Throughout the story, Akira Sukawara undergoes noticeable development. Her approach matures from that of a local news reporter chasing a story to a more confident and serious author and investigator. However, the narrative also presents a critical view of her unwavering quest for a single truth, suggesting that her insistence on a definitive explanation might be a mistake in a world where phenomena may defy rational understanding and hold different meanings for different people. She has no supernatural abilities herself; her primary tools are her journalistic skills, her persistence, and her analytical mind, which she uses to connect disparate events and uncover the patterns behind the enigmatic appearances of the material fairies.
