OVA
Description
Shinka Nibutani is a high school student who enrolls at Icho Private High School hoping to leave behind her embarrassing past as a former "chūnibyō" sufferer. In middle school, she embraced the persona "Mori Summer," convinced she was an ancient mage who could speak with fairies and wield magic like the "Ultimate Explosion Spell." She chronicled this fantasy existence in a blog named "Mabinogion," later attempting to delete it entirely to erase this identity.

Standing approximately 165 cm tall, Shinka has light brown hair usually worn in a ponytail fastened with a pink hair clip. Early in the second season, she temporarily dyes her hair black and adopts a longer skirt to evade recognition, but reverts to her original look when this proves ineffective. She is widely regarded as attractive and secretly wins a class poll for cutest girl.

Publicly, as class representative and cheerleader, Shinka projects a polite, friendly, and popular image, earning admiration for her abilities. Privately, especially within the Far Eastern Magic Napping Society of Summer club, she displays a more irritable, blunt, and manipulative side. Reminders of her Mori Summer past cause intense embarrassment, often triggering violent reactions like striking Sanae Dekomori or physical outbursts when provoked. Despite this, she possesses a genuinely kind heart and deeply cares for her friends, offering help when needed.

Her central conflict involves Sanae Dekomori, who possesses printed copies of the Mabinogion and actively pursues the "real" Mori Summer while rejecting Shinka as an impostor. Their relationship is antagonistic, characterized by frequent arguments and physical fights, yet underpinned by mutual care. Shinka protects Sanae from someone falsely claiming to be Mori Summer and shares an accidental kiss with her in an OVA. Their dynamic evolves into one where frequent clashes signify deeper affection, though both deny this.

Shinka actively supports the romance between Rikka Takanashi and Yuuta Togashi, frequently advising or manipulating events to strengthen their bond. She encourages Rikka's Season 1 confession and continues facilitating their relationship in Season 2 and the "Take On Me" movie. In the film, as student council vice president, she initially backs Yuuta and Rikka's elopement to prevent their separation but later tails them under threat of blackmail by Rikka's sister.

Gradually, Shinka comes to terms with her chūnibyō history. While still embarrassed, she keeps mementos like Mori Summer's bangles and headpiece, and subtle hints of her fantasy interests linger in her room. Lingering aspects of her Mori Summer persona surface in her enthusiasm for romance discussions and occasional sadistic teasing, such as using Yuuta's chūnibyō alias "Gelzoniansus" to fluster him – Mori Summer's catchphrase was "Love is everything."

Additional details include her birthday (August 30), blood type (B), ticklishness on her bare feet, and a dislike of milk which she forces Sanae to drink. Her surname "Nibutani" combines characters for "red," "fresh," and "valley," while "Shinka" means "summer forest," directly referencing her Mori Summer alias.
