Kunihito Kusanagi is a 19-year-old military officer affiliated with the Atlas Corporation, where he serves as a major in the 10th Antiaircraft Artillery Corps and is known by the title "The Land". He is also designated Digma 3, possessing a sacred dagger identical to those of Kuniko and Mikuni, though the tip of his own blade has been broken. Raised in an ordinary family, he is described as clever and possessing an honest heart. Despite his military role, he is reluctant to cause harm and does not share the full aggressive drive of the Atlas forces. He operates under the command of Leon and is tasked with relentlessly pursuing members of the anti-government group Metal Age. Over time, he develops a fondness for Kuniko, the series' main protagonist, and his conflicted stance on the organization he serves becomes a key part of his development. In the anime adaptation, his lineage traces back to Himiko, the ancient shaman queen, lending a mythic dimension to his character.
