Makoto Ishii is a Japanese voice actor born on February 24, 1976, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. He is affiliated with the talent agency remax-web.

Ishii began his voice acting career in 2001 after joining the agency Mausu Promotion. He was a member of Mausu Promotion until March 2013 and then joined his current agency, remax-web, in September 2014.

His most prominent and long-running role is Kazuki Makabe in the Fafner in the Azure mecha anime franchise. He first voiced the character in the 2004 television series Fafner and has since reprised the role in numerous sequels and films, including Fafner: Heaven and Earth, Fafner EXODUS, and Fafner THE BEYOND. This role is widely considered his signature performance.

Beyond the Fafner series, Ishii has built a diverse portfolio of voice work across anime, video games, and dubbing. In anime, his other notable roles include Mikhail in Arifureta - From Commonplace to World's Strongest, Namida-kun in Pururun! Shizuku-chan and its sequel, Roland in Nodame Cantabile: Paris, Takumi Nishi in Koitabi ~True Tours Nanto, and Shinichirō Nakagami in True Tears. He has also taken on roles in major franchises such as Masumi Nishijima in Future Diary, a supporting part in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, and the role of Cress in Pokémon: Black & White.

His work also extends significantly to video games, where he is known for voicing the loyal canine companion Repede in the Tales of Vesperia series and the protagonist in the Honkai Impact 3rd expansion, A Post-Honkai Odyssey. He has also contributed to English language dubs, providing the Japanese voice for characters like Zack Mazursky in the film Alpha Dog.

A notable achievement outside of specific roles was his appointment in 2009 as a tourism ambassador for Nanto City in Toyama Prefecture. He received this honor alongside fellow cast members from the anime True Tears, which was set in the city, in recognition of the series' contribution to local tourism.
