Description
Chelsea Rorec is a central character who serves as the dedicated bodyguard and tutor to Ruri Sarasa, the Life Maiden. Her primary mission is to protect Ruri, which becomes the driving force behind her actions from the very beginning of the story. Chelsea originates from the Underground, a hidden civilization beneath Tokyo where people with elemental abilities live.

As a gravity ability user, Chelsea possesses the rare power to manipulate gravitational forces. This allows her to control gravity within a limited area, create concentrated gravitational energy in her fists, and launch this energy as projectiles against her opponents. Her abilities make her a formidable fighter, though she can deplete her energy with extensive use. When she first escapes to the surface with Ruri, she is already wounded from previous battles, showing the risks she continually takes for her charge.

Chelsea’s personality is defined by her rough, temperamental nature and high level of vigilance. She has a coarse, big sister-like demeanor and can be quick to anger, particularly when she perceives a threat to Ruri. Despite her gruff exterior, she is deeply loyal and selfless. She is fully prepared to give her life in the line of duty and is completely devoted to her task of keeping Ruri safe from the Company, the organization that rules the Underground and seeks to exploit Ruri’s powers.

Her role in the story begins when she and Ruri flee the Underground and emerge in the garden of a surface teenager named Rumina Asagi. Chelsea is initially suspicious of Rumina and his friend Ginnosuke Isuzu, but she accepts their help as they hide from the Company agents pursuing them. Throughout the series, she acts as Ruri’s frontline defender. At one point, after depleting her strength in a fight against a fire-wielding enemy, she is unable to continue, and Rumina is killed while trying to protect Ruri. Ruri uses her life power to resurrect him, awakening his own latent wind abilities in the process. This event binds the group closer together.

Chelsea’s key relationships evolve significantly over the course of the narrative. Her bond with Ruri is the most important, as she acts as both protector and teacher. Her dynamic with Rumina is initially combative; she frequently hits him on the head for being too familiar or careless with Ruri. However, as they fight alongside each other, she grows to respect him and eventually develops deeper feelings for him. She also interacts with Ginnosuke, though their connection is less central to the plot.

In terms of character development, Chelsea starts as a wary guardian who trusts very few people and sees the surface world as a dangerous unknown. Over time, she learns to rely on her new allies, particularly Rumina, and becomes more integrated into the group. While she remains fiercely protective, she becomes less isolated in her mission and more open to cooperation.

Her abilities are a key part of her identity. As a gravity elemental user, she stands out among the many fire, water, and electricity users in the Underground. Her power is not only used for direct combat but also for strategic purposes, such as bursting water pipes to create an escape route or collapsing debris to block pursuers. She is consistently portrayed as a strong and tough opponent, capable of taking on multiple enemies at once.
