Description
Christina Sierra is a fictional character from the anime Mobile Suit Gundam 00, where she serves as a crew member of the celestial being organization's CBS-70 Ptolemaios. She holds the position of tactical communicator and战况管制员, or battle situation controller, on the ship's bridge.
Born on March 29, 2285, Christina is 22 years old during the events of the first season. She stands 160 centimeters tall and has O type blood. Her nickname among fellow crew members is Chris.
Before joining Celestial Being, Christina had a difficult personal history. She lived in an L1 space colony with an adoptive mother, with whom she had a strained relationship. This led her to run away from home. To support herself afterwards, she returned to her former activities as a hacker, or cracker, working illegally with computers. Her talents in this area eventually drew the attention of Veda, the supercomputer that directs Celestial Being, which selected her to join the organization. According to some sources, her recruitment happened at a critical moment, as she was apparently on the verge of being arrested when the offer came.
As a person, Christina is known for her frank and坦率, or straightforward, personality. She is honest and bluntly expresses her feelings to others. This openness has earned her the deep trust of her comrades on the Ptolemaios. She has a keen interest in fashion and enjoys shopping and exploration, often trying to involve her friend Feldt Grace in these activities, acting somewhat like an older sister to the younger girl. She also possesses a somewhat mechanical or technical-oriented side to her interests.
Despite her skills, Christina initially has a somewhat naive perspective on the gravity of the armed interventions being carried out by Celestial Being. In an early encounter with the Human Reform League, she is paralyzed by the fear of death and the reality of combat, panicking under pressure. She only regains her composure after being sharply scolded by Feldt, which serves as a turning point that helps her take the seriousness of war more seriously from then on.
Christina’s primary role in the story is that of a support operator aboard the Ptolemaios. She is responsible for tactical communications with the Gundam Meisters during missions, tracking their movements and advising them as battle conditions change. Her most notable ability is her exceptional talent for programming and hacking. She demonstrates this skill on multiple occasions, such as hacking into the AEU military’s deployment data to monitor their troop positions in real time. When Veda is compromised, she also uses her programming expertise to create an independent operating system for the Gundams, allowing the Meisters to continue fighting without the supercomputer's support.
In terms of relationships, Christina has a close and friendly rapport with the tactical forecaster, Sumeragi Lee Noriega, though she is not above reminding her superior about her excessive drinking habits at inopportune moments. Her most significant relationships are with fellow operator Feldt Grace and helmsman Lichtendahl Tsery. She cares for Feldt and tries to draw her out of her shell. Regarding Lichtendahl, or Lichty, who has clear romantic feelings for her, Christina initially dismisses his advances, stating that he is not her type. For a time, she becomes infatuated with Johann Trinity, the pilot of the Gundam Throne Eins, even keeping a picture of them together as a screensaver, though she deletes it after the Trinity team becomes hostile.
Christina Sierra experiences her most crucial development and meets her end during the final battle against the UN forces. As the bridge of the Ptolemaios comes under heavy attack, she sends Feldt away on a pretext to protect her. When a GN-X fires directly at the bridge, Lichtendahl sacrifices himself by using his own body to shield her from the blast. In that moment, gravely wounded herself, Christina realizes that the ideal man for her was Lichty, who had been by her side all along. She admits her blindness to him and he dies happy knowing his feelings are finally returned. Christina sustains fatal injuries from shrapnel, and despite her efforts, she succumbs to her wounds shortly thereafter, embracing Lichty as the bridge explodes, killing them both. Her final wish, conveyed to Feldt, is for those who survive to change the world. She later makes a cameo appearance in the second season's opening animation and appears in the theatrical version as an apparition, encouraging Setsuna F. Seiei during the final battle.
