Description
Neil Dylandy, known by his codename Lockon Stratos, is a Gundam Meister affiliated with the armed interventionist organization Celestial Being in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. He piloted the GN-002 Gundam Dynames, a long-range sniper-type mobile suit. Born in Ireland on March 3, 2283, he was the eldest of the four original Gundam Meisters and served as an unofficial leader figure among them.

His background is marked by tragedy. When he was a child, his parents and younger sister Amy were killed in a terrorist attack carried out by the KPSA, the same organization later associated with the antagonist Ali Al-Saachez. His identical twin brother Lyle also survived the attack, but the two grew estranged and did not keep in contact. Neil joined Celestial Being seeking the power to change the world and to pursue a personal vendetta against those responsible for his family's death.

Personality-wise, Lockon is the most easygoing and cheerful of the Meisters. He is kind and considerate toward others, often acting as the emotional anchor for his teammates. He maintains a calm, cool-headed demeanor in most situations and rarely shows anger. However, beneath his relaxed surface lies a deep-seated anger and bitterness toward terrorists, particularly anyone connected to the KPSA. When missions or individuals touch on this trauma, his judgment can become clouded by emotion, momentarily blinding his otherwise rational thinking.

His primary motivation evolves over the course of the story. Initially driven by a desire for revenge, he gradually comes to embrace Celestial Being's larger goal of eradicating war. This internal shift is most visible in his relationship with Setsuna F. Seiei. When Lockon learns that a younger Setsuna was involved in the deaths of his family members during Setsuna's time as a child soldier, he confronts him but ultimately chooses not to kill him. This decision marks a pivotal moment where Lockon moves past pure vengeance and focuses on fighting the true enemy, Ali Al-Saachez.

In the story, Lockon plays a crucial role as the team's long-range specialist and moral support. He often coordinates the team's tactics in battle and maintains a close working relationship with the tactical forecaster Sumeragi Lee Noriega, with whom he shares a subtle emotional bond. He reveals his real name to Feldt Grace, further demonstrating his trust in his crewmates. His bond with Tieria Erde is also significant; after his death, Tieria carries on Lockon's promise to fight for his own sense of justice and protect their comrades.

Lockon's development culminates in his final battle. After suffering a serious eye injury while defending Patrick Colasour, he refuses to stay behind and returns to combat against medical advice. In his final confrontation with Ali Al-Saachez, he employs a hybrid combat strategy using the GN Arms to disable Ali's Gundam Throne. Though he fights with determination and skill, Ali counters and the battle ends with Lockon's death. His sacrifice leaves a legacy that continues to motivate his surviving comrades, particularly Setsuna and Tieria.

In terms of abilities, Lockon is an exceptional marksman and sniper. His skill is so refined that he can lock on to targets from extreme distances, even from the stratosphere, which is the origin of his codename. He piloted the Dynames with precision, relying on its long-range beam rifle and missile launchers. He also used a small robot companion, an orange Haro, which assisted with maintenance, system calibration, and firing support while in sniper mode. His combat style relied on mobility and accuracy, and he possessed strategic insight that made him a natural leader on the battlefield. Even after losing his right eye, he continued to fight with undiminished resolve.
