Description
Führer King Bradley, also known by his homunculus name Wrath, is a central character who serves as both the respected military ruler of Amestris and a powerful antagonist. His existence is unique among the homunculi, as he was not directly created by the entity known as Father. Instead, Bradley was originally a human orphan and military candidate who was subjected to an experimental process that infused him with a Philosopher's Stone, transforming him into a homunculus. This origin gives him the singular ability to age, which allows him to convincingly maintain his human persona as the Führer, a role he has held for decades.

In public, Bradley presents the image of a wise, calm, and even jovial leader, admired by the citizens of Amestris as a national hero. He is often seen with a pleasant demeanor and a dry sense of humor, which makes his true nature all the more deceptive. This facade hides the reality of his identity as Wrath, the embodiment of fury. Unlike some of his fellow homunculi who harbor a deep-seated hatred for humanity, Bradley's perspective is more complex. He sees individual human lives as having no more or less value than any other single life, a philosophy that fuels his ruthless efficiency. He rarely associates with the other homunculi, like Lust, Gluttony, or Envy, preferring to operate independently and only collaborating when necessary for Father's grand plan.

Bradley's primary motivation is not personal ambition but the fulfillment of the path that was set for him from his creation. He is a fatalist who acknowledges that his life's purpose was predetermined, yet he finds a perverse sense of satisfaction in navigating that path. His deep-seated wrath is not typically expressed as uncontrolled rage but as a cold, focused, and devastating force in combat. He genuinely respects strong opponents and seems to relish the challenge of a worthy fight. This is most evident in his final battle, where he is mortally wounded but continues to fight, even grabbing a shard of his broken sword with his teeth to land a final blow on his enemy, Scar.

His role in the story is that of a formidable obstacle and the public face of the military conspiracy orchestrated by Father. As the Führer, he commands the entire State Military, using his authority to manipulate events, start wars such as the Ishvalan Civil War, and shape the country into a giant transmutation circle for the Promised Day. He is directly responsible for the deaths of several key characters and is a persistent threat to the protagonists. A key relationship in his life is with his wife, Mrs. Bradley. While he is a monster to his enemies, he shares a genuine and deep bond with her. On his deathbed, when asked if he has any final words for her, he states that she understands him, and that no more words need to pass between them, signifying that their mutual comprehension is absolute. His relationship with his "son", Selim Bradley, is more complex, as Selim is actually Pride, the first and most powerful homunculus; their family unit is another layer of deception, though a functional one.

Bradley's character development is subtle but profound. He is introduced as a seemingly benign leader, but his true nature as a cold-blooded killer is revealed during the raid on Greed's hideout, where he single-handedly defeats the homunculus Greed. Throughout the series, he remains largely static in his purpose, but his final moments reveal a deep-seated human conflict. Despite being a homunculus, he admits that thanks to the "idiosyncrasies of humanity," his predetermined life was still worth living and even worth dying for. Unlike other homunculi who dissolve into nothing when their Philosopher's Stone is exhausted, Bradley's body remains intact after death, his hair turns gray, and he dies with a peaceful smile, suggesting that the human core he once had was never entirely extinguished.

Notably, Bradley possesses few of the supernatural abilities typical of homunculi. He has no superhuman strength, shapeshifting, or regeneration abilities. His one unique power is his "Ultimate Eye," which he keeps hidden beneath an eyepatch. This eye grants him incredible visual acuity and predictive abilities, allowing him to perceive an opponent's weaknesses and the most efficient path to strike them, giving him seemingly superhuman reflexes and precision in swordsmanship. To compensate for his lack of regeneration, he has honed his body to its absolute peak human condition. He is an extraordinarily talented and swift swordsman, capable of feats such as deflecting bullets, charging through a battalion of soldiers, and even single-handedly destroying a tank with only his sword. His fighting style is aggressive, direct, and lethal, perfectly embodying the sin of wrath without the need for flashy powers.
