Description
Manji is a former samurai who once served the corrupt hatamoto Horii Shigenobu. After discovering his master's misrule, Manji killed Shigenobu and was branded an outlaw. He earned the epithet "Killer of a Hundred" by slaughtering one hundred men, among them his own sister’s husband. Mortally wounded in that rampage, he was saved by the eight‑hundred‑year‑old nun Yaobikuni, who implanted sacred bloodworms, or kessen‑chu, into his body, granting him functional immortality. Seeking atonement, Manji made a pact to kill one thousand evil men; only then would the curse lift and allow him to die.
