Takuya Kimura

Description
Takuya Kimura is a Japanese actor, singer, and voice actor born in Tokyo on November 13, 1972. While he is widely recognized as a Japanese icon and former member of the popular boy band SMAP, his work in voice acting for anime, though selective, includes several notable and high-profile roles.

Kimura's entry into anime voice acting came with his role as the titular character in the 2004 Studio Ghibli blockbuster film Howl's Moving Castle. This marked a significant departure from his live-action work and showcased his versatility as a performer. His second voice-acting role in an anime film was in the 2009 cult classic Redline, where he lent his voice to the protagonist, the daredevil driver known as "Sweet" JP. Redline was a passion project produced by Madhouse, noted for its seven-year production and use of over 100,000 hand-drawn frames.

After a decade-long hiatus from anime voice work, Kimura returned to the medium for the 2020 film Doraemon: Nobita's New Dinosaur. In this, the 40th film in the long-running Doraemon series, he voiced the character Jill, a mysterious man disguised as a monkey who is later revealed to be an undercover agent for the Time Patrol monitoring the Cretaceous period. This role marked his first voice acting for an anime film in ten years. He continued his collaboration with Studio Ghibli, providing the voice for the character Shoichi Maki in the 2023 film The Boy and the Heron. That same year, he also voiced a minor role in the television anime series Dead Mount Death Play.

Kimura's contributions to voice acting are distinguished by his involvement in major, high-profile animated projects. His filmography includes a collaboration with acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki on Howl's Moving Castle, a role in the visually groundbreaking Redline, and participation in the beloved and enduring Doraemon franchise. His casting in these films often brings significant attention from his extensive fanbase, bridging the gap between his status as a live-action star and the world of anime.
