Description
Nadeshiko Fujisaki is introduced as an elegant and graceful girl who serves as the Queen's Chair of the Guardians at Seiyo Elementary School. However, Nadeshiko is not a separate person but a public persona adopted by a boy named Nagihiko Fujisaki. This dual identity stems from a longstanding tradition in the Fujisaki family, in which male children are raised as females during their early years in order to train as oyama, male actors who play female roles in traditional Japanese dance and kabuki theater. As a result, Nagihiko spent his childhood living and presenting as Nadeshiko, a practice so ingrained that he could seamlessly pass as a girl for an extended period.
As Nadeshiko, the character is known for being elegant, polite, and composed, but also possesses a fierce and stubborn streak when things do not go her way. She is warm, empathetic, and deeply caring toward others, often placing the needs of friends and family above her own. Nadeshiko is highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of duty and responsibility. She values tradition and adheres to Japanese customs, while also being a skilled cook and an accomplished traditional dancer. As Nagihiko, the character becomes more reserved and serious. He takes his responsibilities as a Guardian very seriously and is skilled in martial arts, using agility and quick reflexes in battle. Both personas share a deep sense of loyalty and a desire to protect those they care about.
Nagihiko's primary motivation is to fulfill his family's expectations while also discovering his own identity and passions. The character initially presents himself to Amu Hinamori as Nadeshiko's twin brother, but the truth is eventually revealed to close friends. This secret weighs on him, and he struggles with the duality of his life, though he remains dedicated to supporting his friends and guarding against threats to the Shugo Chara world. He later leaves for Europe to study dance abroad, seeking to perfect his art before returning to take on new challenges.
Nadeshiko's role in the story begins as the Queen's Chair of the Guardians, where she is instrumental in persuading Amu to join the group, even resorting to bribing her with photographs in order to change her mind. The two become close friends, and Nadeshiko often looks after and supports Amu in her personal and romantic life. After leaving for Europe, Nagihiko returns to serve as the interim Jack of the Guardians, stepping in after Kairi Sanjo departs. Key relationships include a strong bond with Amu, whom he supports loyally, and friendships with Tadase Hotori and Kukai Soma, both of whom know his secret. The First King also knows the truth and entrusts him with the Jack position.
Over the course of the series, Nagihiko undergoes significant personal development. The revelation of his true identity marks a turning point, leading to deeper exploration of his feelings for Amu and his own sense of self. He initially tells Amu he is Nadeshiko's twin, a lie that later causes him inner conflict. His growth is further highlighted when his Guardian Character Rhythm hatches after he remembers how much he enjoys playing basketball, embracing his own pace and rhythm despite family tradition. This event allows him to reconcile his duty to his family's art with his personal passions, moving toward greater self-acceptance and confidence.
Nagihiko has two Guardian Characters. The first, Temari, is associated with traditional Japanese dance and elegance. When performing a Character Transformation with Temari, he becomes Yamato Mai Hime, a form that wields a naginata and represents grace and formal combat. His second Guardian Character, Rhythm, embodies athleticism and a love for sports. The Character Transformation with Rhythm transforms him into Beat Jumper, a basketball-themed form that enhances agility and jumping ability. In this state, he can execute attacks such as Beat Dunk, a powerful leaping dunk, and Blaze Shoot, which involves throwing a sphere of energy. During Character Changes with Rhythm, Nagihiko adopts a friendly and optimistic sports-focused personality, while Changes with Temari bring out a more battle-hungry demeanor, sometimes speaking with a Hiroshima dialect. These abilities reflect his growth from a dancer bound by tradition into a versatile Guardian capable of blending grace with athletic power.
