Description
Isaac Netero is the twelfth chairman of the Hunters Association, a position that grants him the highest administrative authority over the organization, including the power to oversee the Hunter Exam and grant licenses at his discretion. At approximately one hundred and ten to one hundred and twenty years old, Netero initially appears as a frail, elderly man with a ponytail, a thick beard, and stretched earlobes. However, this appearance is deceptive, as beneath his traditional kimono lies a surprisingly fit and muscular physique forged from a lifetime of martial arts discipline.

Netero's personality is defined by a stark contrast between his public demeanor and his true nature. To many, he is an energetic, playful, and seemingly absent-minded elder who enjoys mischief and testing the limits of aspiring Hunters, such as when he engaged Gon and Killua in a one-sided ball game. Despite this whimsical facade, he is a serious authority figure when intervening in matters that threaten humanity. Netero is a true martial artist at his core, driven by a deep-seated passion for challenges and the thrill of facing a formidable opponent. He has dedicated his life to martial arts and prayer, displaying immense pride in his abilities but little respect for the weak. He is known to assign nearly impossible tasks to those he trusts, a trait others describe as twisted or eccentric. His ultimate goal is to find a worthy adversary against whom he can fight with all his strength, seeking a decisive victory or defeat rather than mere survival.

The foundation of Netero's power lies in his past. At the age of forty-six, he began an intense daily ritual of performing ten thousand punches of gratitude and prayer. Initially taking over eighteen hours, this regimen continued for years until he could complete it in under an hour, eventually allowing him to strike faster than the speed of sound. This training led to his enlightenment and the founding of the Shingen-ryu school of kung fu. Decades ago, he was renowned as the most powerful Nen user in the world. Although he claims to be past his prime and at less than half his former strength, his subordinates disagree, and he remains a terrifyingly powerful fighter. His experience includes surviving an expedition to the Dark Continent and being the only known person to have fought Maha Zoldyck and live to tell the tale, a feat that occurred when Zeno Zoldyck was still a child.

Netero's notable abilities are a testament to his mastery of Nen, which is of the Enhancement type. His signature technique is the 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, a conjured Nen construct of a massive, multi-armed statue behind him. This ability allows him to unleash incredibly fast, powerful attacks from multiple angles, with specific techniques including First Hand, Third Hand, and the devastating Ninety-ninth Hand. His ultimate ability is the Zero Hand, which channels all of his aura into a concentrated blast from the statue. His physical prowess is immense; he can leap from great heights without injury, endure fatal wounds without flinching, and possesses such dense muscles that Gon hurt his own head trying to headbutt Netero's stomach.

In the film Hunter × Hunter The Last Mission, Netero's role is central as he confronts a threat from his past. Decades before the events of the film, he sealed away a Hunter named Jed, who had mastered On, described as the dark shadow of Nen. When users of On resurface at the Battle Olympia tournament in Heaven's Arena, Netero must undertake what is framed as his last mission: protecting the Hunters Association and the world from a threat driven by hatred and revenge. This mission forces him to confront the consequences of his past actions and rely on the help of others to succeed. Information regarding his character development or specific key relationships within this particular film is limited to his conflict with Jed and his role as a mentor figure to the younger hunters.
