TV-Series
Description
Amano Airi appears as a secondary character throughout the D4DJ franchise. She serves as a waitress at Cafe Vinyl under owner Kofune Ryujin, whom she addresses as "Master" and occasionally reprimands over his musical selections during operating hours. Her warm-hearted and mature nature emerges through mentoring younger DJ units like Happy Around! who frequent the cafe.
Physically, Airi has mahogany hair extending to her back and reddish-pink eyes, regularly wearing lipstick and standing among the franchise's shorter adult characters.
Her childhood included a year in the United States due to her parents' work. There, she discovered Aria—later revealed as Neo's mother—singing in a church choir. Captivated by Aria's voice, Airi joined the choir to connect with her. Despite their age gap, they developed a sisterly bond. Correspondence continued after Airi returned to Japan but faded following Aria's marriage, singing debut, and Neo's birth. Inspired by Aria's success, Airi enrolled at Yoba Academy for vocal training.
At Yoba Academy, Airi formed the highly popular unit Call of Artemis with Kase Mana, Himegami Shano, and Takao Toka. Her overwhelming singing ability was credited for perfecting the group. Creative differences caused their disbandment eight years before the main story, leading Airi to abandon singing and work full-time at Cafe Vinyl.
Her relationships reflect complexity: she shares a playful yet teasing-prone dynamic with Mana and maintains friendship with Shano, who visits the cafe nostalgically. Fate reunites them onstage at D4 FES. Airi previously mentored Yamate Kyoko and Aoyagi Tsubaki through vocal lessons. Her history with Aria establishes a unique connection to Lumina, who reveres Airi and volunteers as a model for her drawing hobby—noted as "advanced for mankind." Airi also shares a pivotal moment with Aria's daughter Neo, pressuring her during a Call of Artemis performance to grasp the caliber required to surpass a "World No.1."
A turning point reignites Airi's musical passion. After reuniting with Shano for a D4 FES performance and receiving encouragement, she rediscovers her drive. Consequently, she departs Cafe Vinyl to professionally reunite with Call of Artemis and actively pursue music again.
