Description
Para Para, known in the original Japanese version as PallaPalla, is a character from the anime Sailor Moon SuperS. She is one of the four members of the Amazoness Quartet, a group of young girls who serve the Dead Moon Circus under the leadership of Zirconia and, ultimately, Queen Nehelenia. She is the blue-haired, childlike member of the quartet and works as an acrobatic ball balancer within the circus, in keeping with her strong association with balls and balancing.
Her background ties her to a larger destiny beyond her role as a villain. In the original manga, it is revealed that she is actually Sailor Pallas, one of the four Sailor Guardians who are destined to serve as protectors of Chibiusa in the thirtieth century. The quartet has been taken and manipulated by Queen Nehelenia to serve the Dead Moon Circus, and Para Para is one of those manipulated guardians. In the manga she is the second oldest of the quartet, while in the anime she is depicted as the youngest. Her name comes from the Greek goddess Pallas Athena, and blue is her associated color.
In personality, Para Para is extremely childish and often speaks in the third person. Her creator, Naoko Takeuchi, described her as a bimbo, a crybaby, and childish. Despite this, she has shown signs of being clever, and the other members of the quartet consider her very dangerous. One notable example of her unsettling nature is an episode in which she ripped the head off her own doll as a cure for its toothache. Her approach to combat reflects her personality as well, as she prefers to attack groups of people at once rather than facing opponents one at a time.
Her motivations are tied to her service to the Dead Moon Circus. Along with the rest of the Amazoness Quartet, her mission is to find Pegasus and obtain the Golden Crystal so that Queen Nehelenia can be restored. At one point, on Zirconia's orders, she sends a lemure called Mr. Magic Pierrot to assassinate the Amazon Trio, an earlier group of servants. The creature succeeds in killing Hawk's Eye and indirectly causes the deaths of Tiger's Eye and Fisheye, but it is destroyed by Sailor Moon, and the trio is later revived by Pegasus. Over the course of the story, the quartet begins to develop sympathy for the Sailor Guardians, and late in the series they steal the Golden Crystal and give it to the heroes, helping to break Nehelenia's spell.
